Giving a PC a flaw at every level..good idea or bad idea?

To start out, the flaw is very likely worth it, but when the flaws stack up, it just gets worse and worse, making the character brittle. Brittle isn't what you want a character to be if you want him to live. This is just like a curse should work, and how it usually works out in literature. If...

What's the best part of an RPG to sell?

If you start subscribing now, everything is online and not reachable as soon as you unsubscribe. I can understand why they would want to have it online (to avoid people copying it without paying), but you should be able to "buy" the features, not just "rent" them like now.

Giving a PC a flaw at every level..good idea or bad idea?

I really like the idea, both as a DM and player. Have the player pick the bonus feat first before you pick the flaw. Pick something that tips the scale slightly against the character. Part of the point would be for the player to maybe see that the deal is a problem and try to work his way out...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

I don't know if we are outliers either. From 3e on, you had so many ways to customize your cleric through domains. My favourite cleric was the elven cleric archer. He usually won initiative (high base dex, +2 dex from elf, improved initiative domain feat), he could then buff himself/the party...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

I really liked the 3e cleric, although there is little reason to use the cure spells in combat, they just heal to little compared to incoming damage. You either used the Heal spell, or party-wide buffs. When you had access to the Mass cure spells, that was also an option at higher levels...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

I am playing in a campaign that had a healer (cleric), but then the player got kids and never showed up. We have been playing since level 3-4 to level 11 without a healer. We have compensated by getting more healing related powers (it's a D&D 4e game), to handle random spikes in incoming damage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

I do agree with you, getting back spells in the morning is D&D. Moving to once week is quite viable for some campaigns, but doesn't feel like D&D. I tried moving resources to weekly instead of daily for overland travel in 4e, and mechanically, it worked out. It felt really meta-gamey, and I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

This really depends on the adventure you are playing. In my current campaign one encounter per day is the norm. Mostly because I don't do dungeon crawls.

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 28.04: Battlesystem! (mass battles rules)

I think I need to see an example with PC's in play before I decide if there is any point to this or not. The last time my PC was involved in mass combat, we flew over the army while invisible and cast Blade Barrier, Ewards Black Tentacles, Fireball, Acid Fog and so on, obliterating the army in...

Pathfinder 1E a real pathfinder fix thread... PF2e

Some of the suggestions here are, as you say, too radical to keep the game still resemble 3e. 4e departed too far from earlier editions to really feel like D&D. (I currently play 4e, but I do prefer the way they are going with 5e). Anyway, not all the suggestions here are so radical that they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Q&A with D&D R&D

Great post! Skirmishes with those type of numbers is just what I want for my game. Big battles with hundreds of participants just doesn't work too well in my opinion. Mostly due to large AoE spells.

Pathfinder 1E a real pathfinder fix thread... PF2e

Maybe doing feats in a way that more closely resembles spell progression would work? Let's introduce feat levels: Feat level 0: weapon focus, toughness, skill focus, etc Feat level 1: power attack, cleave, etc Feat level 2: Spring attack Feat level 3: whirlwind attack, greater cleave Feat level...

What's the best part of an RPG to sell?

Many modern MMORPGs have started to instead of selling a subscription that enables you to play that month, the subscription gives you access to new content. In other words, content bought stays bought after your subscription. I really don't like the current DDI model as a player/DM and I don't...

D&D 5E (2014) CR balance and proof of concept...or not

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/dndqa/20140425 In other words, don't use the CR to build encounters, use the xp.

You do not use cr to build encounters, but xp.

    Why do Crossbows Suck?

They already do that in many editons, you need martial weapon proficiency for bows, but not for crossbows. You can then add feats like rapid shot to fire more quickly.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 04/25/2014

You are probably right here, they do say: So, CR is to be used to find appropriate monsters, while you use the XP/XP budget to figure how many you should use. Maybe not so idiotic as I first thought. I hope they use xp in all their examples for creating encounters...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 04/25/2014

The question then becomes, what CR do they put on monsters like Dragons (that you will often meet alone)? Do you just set CR10 and 4x the xp of a monster you usually meet one of for each party member, or do you set the CR to 15 or something so that on level 15, you run into 4 dragons for the...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 04/25/2014

This is my thought as well, and I do think they should just skip the whole CR-business, since it will just add confusion.
