What do people play more of nowadays?

I marked 'other' but in previous polls I would have put down 4E. The only game I'm playing right now is Warhammer Fantasy RP (3E) though we haven't gotten many sessions in due to scheduling conflicts. My last 4E game ended when I finished university, so I've been taking a break from both...

    FFG's Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Number of rounds per combat would probably stay about the same, but it might have a wacky effect on game balance. The physical stats would be less valuable. A feeble scholar and Dwarven Ironbreaker both doing the same damage with a greataxe seems a bit strange.

    Gestalt? Huh?

Gestalt characters have the traits of two classes at once - think of it as multi-classing on steroids. For example, a 5th level Gestalt Fighter/Wizard (I'll use 3.5 rules because I haven't seen anyone do gestalt in 4E) would have all of the class features of both classes (The Wizard's...

    FFG's Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

He's right. WFRP Core Rulebook pg. 59 : "The target's Toughness, the soak value of its armour or equipment, or the effects of special abilities or talents may reduce the damage it takes. These numbers are combined to calculate the target's damage reduction." An example on pg 61 clarifies that...

    Dungeon Magazine Annual TOC?

I flipped through it yesterday with exactly that question in mind, and as far as I could tell they didn't do any rewrites to the module. The module is definitely not standalone, set as a grand reveal for the first half of the SoW series. The 'behind the scenes' sidebars don't really offer any...

    Future of D&D Miniatures

I got lucky and got into DDM in a big way in Spring 2006 - when there seemed to be a huge surplus of commons/uncommons. Looking back over my e-bay receipts from Auggies, I was picking up a ton of of humanoids, animals, and various humans for under $0.40 a figure. I'm not sure if it was the...

When status effects annoy the players

I found this problem a while ago in a game when the players ran into a vampire. An at-will, minor action dominate isn't fun when you're a fighter with a low will defense. At the time I took the "don't whine about it, you could have done things to improve your defense or increase your resistance...

    Party dynamics mini game

Here's hoping a beastiary comes out sometime soon for WFRP3 - I loooove monsters, and the two dozen or so in the DM book are a bit limiting.

    Party dynamics mini game

Nitpick! The base kit has enough stuff for 3 players, not 2. It wouldn't be too hard to boost the players beyond that, they'd just need to double up on some of the basic action cards (the equivalent if basic melee attacks in 4E). The 'player booster' kit (the Adventurer's Toolkit) offers more...

    Future of D&D Miniatures

Well, if past sets are any indication, we should get some early previews of Lords of Madness when the factory leaks start popping up on taobao.com next month. ;)

    Party dynamics mini game

I picked up WFRP3 at Christmas but was only able DM one session so far. I really enjoyed the session and hope to play more this summer, possibly replacing 4E as the go-to game for my group. The party sheet, in my limited experience, is a very cool concept but it was hard to figure out a use...

    Future of D&D Miniatures

There are a few reasons that individually packaged minis aren't a good fit for Wizards. With individually packaged minis WotC can't leverage the retail market beyond very specialized game stores - I can't imagine Barnes and Noble (or even the comic book shop where I used to buy my minis cases)...

    Future of D&D Miniatures

I'm not in the toy business - this is mostly speculation based on snippets of what I've heard from Wizard's reps a few years back when they spoke more candidly about how miniature production worked. I imagine that keeping minis in stock after the first run sells out is much like keeping a book...

    Monte Cook's Dungeonaday.com

Whizbang, Dragon's Delve isn't (as presented on the site outside of the conversion notes) in the countryside outside of Ptolus - it isn't in Praemal at all. The default setting is 'the Fallen Duchy of Chordille," a loosely defined border region 'forgotten by the outside world.' Much like how...

    [edition neutral] No more dailies?

It's a pretty interesting idea. In my 'fantasy heartbreaker' I ran for the year or so before 4E came out I used a variant of recharge magic and did away with most daily limitations. It pretty much did away with attrition (I didn't have a healing surge mechanism, so a wand of cure light wounds...

    Keeping Track of Rules Updates

The characters build their PCs and level them with the Character builder, so that takes care of most of the updates. I run some of my monsters from the Adventure Tools and some from books, but the updates to monster stats have never been that significant. I give a quick glance over the updates...

    Future of D&D Miniatures

Won't that hurt your wallet more if the very-rares are minis you want? Even if you're not a set completionist, I'm sure eventually one will catch your fancy. A look at the Star Wars line puts recently released very-rares at $20 and up on the secondary market - I can't find any in-print DDM...

    WotC April survey

DDM hasn't had a miniatures game associated with it since Demonweb in 2008, or at least one officially supported by WotC. The randomized model was never strongly tied to utility for the skirmish game. The rarity levels tend to coincide with production costs of the minis, with small one-piece...

    WotC April survey

I added the feedback that I think they should add the Monster Themes and Templates to the Adventure Tools Monster builder. I found it strange that they designed what were essentially 'drag and drop' powers but they don't let you easily use them within the DDI.
