Adding class levels to a monster with claw/bite attacks.

Just to muddy the waters: Savage Species pg 106, under Monk "Those (monsters) with natural attacks can deal their natural weapon damage with the monk's higher unarmed attack rate, or they can deal the monk's unarmed combat damage, whichever is higher." Ah, inconsistencies... :)

    psionic warrior vs. multiclass psion/fighter

Because then no one would ever play a fighter if a psychic warrior was available (especially since they beefed up the powers). Specialization is the fighter's schtick. A psychic warrior shouldn't have had it in the first place.

    psionic warrior vs. multiclass psion/fighter

Okay, so then I might play a level 4 fighter/ level X psion...maybe, if a DM allows that feat for a psion and/or it is in Complete Arcane. (Strangely, a lot of DMs don't allow an arcane version of a bead of karma. I wonder why...) ;)

    psionic warrior vs. multiclass psion/fighter

The worst part about the psion/fighter is that your manifester level sucks in comparison to a psychic warrior. That means one targeted dispel psionics (or magic), and POOF, there go all yor buffs. I would never play a multiclass spellcaster (psychic warrior included) for that reason alone.

The rules should serve the game, not vice-versa

Yeah, I guess that makes sense if your campaign is centered on humans. I personally am bored with games and settings that focus primarily on humans, such as Wheel of Time, 7th Sea and L5R. Even Forgotten Realms bugs me a little. (Look at the % of humans in each city in FR.) The...

    DR wigginess

The shirt of demonskin in the Miniatures handbook does not radiate evil. (At least it doesn't in its description.) Besides, even if it did radiate evil, a neutral character would benefit more from it than the mantle of faith. Fixed that for you. A good character can do some minor evil...

The rules should serve the game, not vice-versa

Wizards is a putz. Non-mechanic prerequisites are a valid choice. Have them look at the assassin prereq some time. Yeah. I've been playing DnD for a while. Playing a human fighter just doesn't do it for me anymore. But when I want to play something different, like anything with an ECL above 3...

    DR wigginess

I guess my point was that PCs with access to these items are probably going to choose the most effective item, rather than what fits the theme. Should the mantle of faith be changed to 5/good? I mean, shouldn't it protect against the attacks of evil subtypes, and not from the attacks by solars...

    DR wigginess

Ran into a strange side effect of the new DR system: Why would a good character want #/evil DR? The mantle of faith in the DMG gives 5/evil for 76,000gp, and it's not worth it in my opinion. The shirt of demonskin in the MH is also 76000gp, and it gives 5/good DR. Wouldn't it make more sense...

The rules should serve the game, not vice-versa

Thank you. Justification? Please... Does Elminster need a justification for taking levels of rogue, cleric and fighter? Nah, he just did it to mock me. :)

Paladin Tweak - fair trade for Special Mount?

Since the mount is actually pretty good, I'd go with one of the following: 1) two feats 2) good will saves 3) favored enemy (evil outsiders) 4) 2 more skill points 5) one extra spell per level (or a cleric domain)

What's the most over-used magic item?

    Bead of karma

The rules should serve the game, not vice-versa

Man, I seem to have touched a nerve. Are their some underappreciated DMs here or what? :) . . . 1) I understand the difference between CR and ECL. That is not what I am talking about. 2) I don't mind if DMs change the rules. That is not what I am talking about. 3) I don't mind if DMs add new...

    Feat for a werebear

Sorry, didn't see dwarven waraxe. Fighter feat: Improved Toughness (CW)---low hit points tend to be the bane of ECL races Improved Initiative? Maybe? I like going first as a tank. Any feat: Mage Slayer (MH)---casters can't cast defensively in your threat range. Best. Feat. Evar.

    When is LA worth it?

Pax, what exactly are you trying to convince me of? That werebears have problems? Sure. I agree. But so does everything. An 11th level human fighter has weaknesses, too. All I'm trying to say is that I think that werebears are pretty powerful in comparison to the base race/class...

File-Sharing: Has it affected the RPG industry?

(Treading softly.) I think that is the point about copyrights and big businesses. People see these corporation CEOs and copyright owners that make obscene amounts of money, not because of hard work, but because somebody 50 years dead had a neat idea. Makes those same people ask, "Well why the...

The rules should serve the game, not vice-versa

Then we are talking about two different things. I have no problem with houserules and/or variant options. I don't mind if 5th level fighters can have spot as a class skill if they give up armor proficiencies as long as the PCs have the same option at the beginning of the campaign. As long as...

    When is LA worth it?

I think you are intentionally misunderstanding me. Lycantropes can take off their stuff, alternate form, then put their stuff back on (with the help of their party.) Not really. Why can't the other people in my party buy stuff for me? And I can't go into town as my companion's pet bear? Blah...

The rules should serve the game, not vice-versa

I am a stickler for the rules. I admit it. I am the definition of the guy you don't want in your group if you are inconsistent on a saving throw DC or an attack roll. Giving an NPC fighter spot and listen as class skills reeks of laziness. That's not meant to be an insult. I have DMed, and...
