D&D 5E (2024) Greatweapon fighting style? Is this another joke? Did everyone at WotC failed elementary school math classes?

My homebrew modification on this is to up the minimum equal to 4 for d8's, 5 for d10's, 6 for d12's. Still ain't all that great but at least it's not drastically nerfed from the 2014 version. And even if that isn't mathematically optimal, it can be pretty decent in practice to up your damage...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 PHB Release Hype Thread

Most excited: Monk buffs (and stunning strike nerfs), Rogue buffs, Origin feats (bye variant human!), Dual Wielding buffs, new Grappling, new Wild Shape, GWM/SS changes Not excited: Conjure Minor Elementals, new Backgrounds, Paladins nerfed into oblivion

D&D 5E (2024) Can characters change fighting styles

That seems like a rather nitpicky interpretation of the wording to conclude that "you may replace a fighting style you know" doesn't apply anymore because they are "fighting style feats" now. You could be correct though! As always it will be a table by table decision for each DM I could see...

    D&D 5E (2014) New class niche?

Warlock is definitely a contender for best melee DPS in 5.5e. They might not be number one but they're in the running for sure

    D&D 5E (2014) New class niche?

Agreed. 5.5e Warlock is massively buffed in terms of being an actual Gish. Hexblade patron is nearly obsolete because you get their offensive kit from a single invocation while still getting to pick another Patron that supports spellcaster capabilities. You lose out on armor/shield...

D&D 5E (2024) Types of Magic - Arcane, Divine, and Primal?

Warlock, Sorcerer, Fighter, and Rogue spells generally overlap with Arcane (Wizard), Ranger spells generally overlap with Primal (Druid), and Paladin spells generally overlap with Divine (Cleric). Bards are kind of all over the place. This is just an observation of the general trend, and not...

D&D 5E (2024) Types of Magic - Arcane, Divine, and Primal?

Dividing spells up into Arcane, Divine, and Primal got left behind in early playtests. The 2024 PHB uses class-based spell lists similar to how 2014 PHB treats things. In general there is still some thematic impact of the Arcane, Divine, and Primal lists, like how Magical Secrets for Bards or...

D&D 5E (2024) Can characters change fighting styles

Fighters can change their fighting style feat any time they gain a new level in Fighter. Paladins and Rangers don't have this written though, theirs only say they can change the cantrips selected by Blessed Warrior or Druidic Warrior every time they level up.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Yeah it's going to go on indefinitely, unless WotC loses enough market share to make another game become the top dog in the industry. Then people will complain about that one and ignore WotC

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

The layoffs were ~9 months ago? That's a long time, plenty of time for a position to legitimately not be needed and then for new work to come around and require the position again. Working in California for a company that is overly conservative about preventing employment lawsuits, I've always...

D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

I have no dog in this fight but Drink, Salute, and Spit are all obviously verbs, and would've been completely in line with how the 2014 version of the spell was intended to be used. You can't argue that the spell only works with words that are exclusively used as verbs and impossible to use as...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is Cause Fear still a 1st level spell in 2024?

With the caveat that the rules at your particular table will depend on your particular table, all polls I've seen so far indicate that the vast majority of tables are considering non-reprinted spells, subclasses, feats, etc, to all be fair game to use as originally printed. If your table plays...

D&D 5E (2024) Are single class martials still going to be viable in 2024?

No one multiclasses because they need to for RP reasons, you do it because your character will objectively be more powerful that way.

D&D 5E (2024) Are single class martials still going to be viable in 2024?

If you only consider Tier 1 as the "levels that matter" then yes you will rarely ever be better off multiclassing. That's a really narrow and specific window of levels to care about though. All of the martial classes gain significant power per level up to at least 5, sometimes even up to...

    D&D 5E (2024) Is Cause Fear still a 1st level spell in 2024?

Cause Fear is not in the new PHB, so presumably the XGtE version would still be the prevailing rules until it is reprinted in the 2026 "Xanathar's Updates to Everything"

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Now add in Haste spell - between doubling your speed and giving an extra Dash, it's more than a 2x increase in damage

D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

Completely up to the DM to adjudicate. I kind of loved that it allowed so much creativity while at the same time also kind of hated how it required the DM to completely make up the rules as they go

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

They're referring to Shining Smite. Faerie Fire with no saving throw, only requiring an attack to land (which you get to land BEFORE deciding to cast the spell), it's quite strong much like the other spells you've referenced which don't require saving throws.

D&D General Will you play the Revised 2024 rules?

I voted for two options since I'm in two campaigns taking different approaches. Both using the new rules, one allowing backwards compatibility, the other one not. Probably other people voting for multiple options too

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

I don't think the wording is any different than the 2014 version. The 2014 version says (paraphrasing the relevant part) "when a creature moves within the area, it takes 2d4 damage for every 5 feet it travels". That sure sounds to me like forced movement is intended to count as moving within...
