    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

It can easily scale to completely out of control numbers if you combine it with haste and boots of speed. By level 11, over 500 damage per round is easily attainable with spike growth grappling edit: The crazy high numbers come online much earlier than level 11, I just picked that number to...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

My homebrew rule will be that Spike Growth damage is only triggered by creatures using their movement speed (similar to the wording for Attacks of Opportunity). Maybe also add some damage for ending a turn in Spike Growth to beef the damage up for players who are using it normally and not...

WotC How new Wizards of the Coast head John Hight turned around World of Warcraft

Bringing back beloved settings is listening to the fans though. They bungled the execution and put out some bland and uninspiring products, but they at least attempted to do what players asked for. You can listen to what people want and still suck at delivering it successfully. Old School...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Nice writeup! One thing I've been trying to figure out, is there ever any purpose in taking Dual Wielder feat as a straight Rogue? It seems pointless unless you have Extra Attack - at best you turn a 1d6 Nick weapon into a 1d8 Vex weapon. Rogues are always the first class I think of as...

WotC How new Wizards of the Coast head John Hight turned around World of Warcraft

Interesting article, I'm not sure whether anything from WoW necessarily carries over to DnD, but one of the lessons that could be relevant is how WoW made giant improvements recently by starting to actually listen to what players were asking for and actually doing it instead of always trying to...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

What they really ought to do is remove the spells that negate "nitty gritty realism" aspects of the game, but then create low level magic items (like common or uncommon let's say) that do the same thing. It would be much easier for a DM to be like "sorry none of the magic shops have a Basket...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Yeah it doesn't do that. The new See Invisibility just lets you see invisible (and hidden) creatures as if they were visible. If you wouldn't see them if they were visible then See Invisibility doesn't help you

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

Fair question, I'd assume they left it out because it was seen as a "crappy useless feat" by most players, and they figured it wouldn't be missed. Also I think their official position is that Linguist (and anything else not re-printed) is not "removed", it is still eligible to use exactly as...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

They don't matter though because low level spells completely negate their purpose. It's like saying that tracking rations matters when Goodberry exists.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

I don't think it does. In the current rules, if someone is not hidden but it behind total cover, can you see them? I know you can't target them but not sure whether this means they can or cannot be seen. All that the new See Invisibility does is let you see creatures that were previously...

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

WotC has no idea what to do with languages, they're kind of like spell components in that they're in the game because they've always been in the game, but they don't really serve any functional purpose or add anything interesting except in rare situations. Languages could be made to offer...

D&D 5E (2024) can people give themselves Heroic inspiration with musician feat?

The Rules Glossary defines Ally with several criteria, one of which is "a member of your adventuring party", which when taken literally would include the player character. Common sense would imply that you cannot be your own Ally, but the literal wording of the book implies that you can. So I...

D&D 5E (2024) How extensive (if any) will be the PHB errata?

Nick property has many interactions with other abilities that are legitimately confusing as hell, and not just people arguing on forums for the sake of semantics (although it is the internet so yeah, there's some of that too)

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

I think Pact of the Chain is the confusing wording, in that it looks like they changed it but actually didn't. Previous wording was that you could cast it as a ritual, which would take 1 hour and not use a spell slot. New wording is that can cast it as a Magic Action without a spell slot -...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

The wording of Divine Intervention makes it sound like maybe you can cast a spell with a 24 hour cast time (e.g. Hallow) with a single Action. I'm pretty sure though that the wording of Magic Attack supersedes to make it take the entire 24 hour cast time CME scales as +2d8 damage per attack...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Yeah I was wondering the same - maybe Web is intentionally different since it doesn't do damage. I'd much rather they all just work consistently for the sake of making it easier to remember, but it's less overpowered on a spell with no damage

D&D 5E (2024) With Nick Weapon mastery do both weapons need to be nick to use it or only the first or only the 2nd?

Most weapon masteries say "If you hit a creature with this weapon..." (or Miss in the case of Graze) so would work fine with True Strike Nick is unique in referencing the Attack Action, since it is triggered by attacking with another weapon instead of being triggered by the Nick weapon itself

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

According to this moderator post on DnD Beyond, which is not official but is fairly likely to have originally been written by the same people making official decisions, their guidance for if a player selects an older background not published in 2024 basically becomes exactly the same thing as a...
