Professional GM Diary: Pre Planning part 3

Private refers to privately owned or managed. Parks are public. Most everything else is private. Just because something is open to the public does not make it public. Sorry if I sound like I'm beating a dead horse, but I've had this conversation way to many times with way too many people ;)...

Professional GM Diary: Pre Planning part 3

NYC is kinda poor when it comes to game stores with gaming areas... the rent is just too damn high to put aside space that could be generating direct income. I remember some coffee houses were offering game nites... cant find the link now... they might work as a gaming location if things could...

Professional GM Diary: Pre Planning part 3

Therein may lay another problem for you, depending on whatever rules the venue might have. It might not be posted, but many fast food locations, even public food courts, have a seating time limit. They rarely enforce it, but if you are going to be sitting there for 9 hrs a day 3 days a week...

Professional GM Diary: Pre Planning part 3

Are you going to be using the food courts at NYU as your gaming location? My memories of hanging out at NYU are a bit hazy nearly 20 years later, but I remember having to occasionally dodge security to gain access, as I was a college student from another college. I wish you luck. You haven't...

    OSRIC 2.0 Released today

Good question. I'll need 5 copies for the early May semi-seasonal Gathering of Fools ;)

    Your game or theirs?

From what i read he is springing some new houserules mid-campaign: This isnt just upsetting to the players that plan all 20 levels out in advance, it also effects the player that has chosen a class / race / etc based upon facts that have been now changed. Change can be good... but surprises...

    OSRIC 2.0 Released today

You riled up the seniors, and we can be a bunch of Grumpy Old Men... heh But yeah, shock jock style reviews can be offensive to those that aren't in your target audience. Oh, and if you ask nicely I might let you on my lawn to retrieve your ball... maybe ;)

    OSRIC 2.0 Released today

I've just tap danced thru it so far. Looks good. I think I'll be doing a rare event for me and ordering a LuLu copy for myself (and maybe a few more to hand out at my old group's yearly gathering). In the meantime I expect I'll be yoking quite a bit of the monster section for my C&C game.

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

Consider me curious... I'll need to adjust my focus next time I pull my 4e rules out. I tend to forget Mearls designed Iron Heroes.

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

Oh, they are very much in print. The Player's Handbook is in its 3rd printing, the Monsters and Treasures book is in its 2nd printing. I was just trying to find the OP the biggest bang for his buck. Buy.com is not the best site to find stuff in general, but when it does have something you are...

    OSRIC 2.0 Released today

Heh... when I started gaming we had to use chits! Sometimes you had to make your own... and walk there uphill... both ways! Print a PDF? What the heck was a PDF? You had mimeographed copies in purple ink that smelled and made you a bit woozie! Assuming you could make a copy. Battle maps...

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

Maybe its just me but 4e feels like a high magic game from my experience with it. That is just from the racial and character abilities. Its a fun game, but low magic feel it is not.

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

If you start adding in OD&D supplements you no longer have an easily referenced set of rules. Greyhawk has the rules for thieves spread out. Also, if you are going to use the extra classes, you might as well use variable HD and variable weapon damage. When you add druids you are now spread...

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

That kind of rules out OD&D and BD&D, although one of the retro clones built on the OGL might suit the OP's desire. As PDFs of most of the retro clones are free he can cheaply see if any fit his tastes. If nothing else the retro clones are generally an easier read and better organized then...

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

Neither OD&D or BD&D (or LL) fits what the OP desires... flexibility of classes and races. The 3 classes in OD&D and the races as classes in BD&D leave one with little variation. I do think LL is a nicely polished product and can be had in PDF for free (procurement should not be an issue) so...

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

The C&C boxed set is like the classic OD&D boxed set... 3 levels of gaming... its cute and sits on the shelf next to my classic OD&D boxed set ;) buy.com has the C&C PHB for $13.52... get you order to 25 bucks and the shipping is free. They don't have the Monster's and Treasures book in stock...

Which edition would best fit my playing style?

Another vote for C&C and perhaps LL... LL is a free download so it might be a good choice for experimenting.
