There's a hack to keep the fan from constantly running (the Acer One runs pretty cool even with the fan off). Makes it silent and extends battery life and the fan kicks in when needed instead of always on. Google it or send me a pm and I'll find it for you.

A "normal" laptop isnt as portable as an e-book reader or one of the small net-books. If you want to use it while commuting a full-sized laptop is going to be awkward in most situations.

The Aspire One has about a 5 1/2 hr battery life and no left - right scrolling on any of the PDFs i've viewed on it. Can't say the same for the first generation Asus netbook I tried... left - right scrolling was annoying and was a deal breaker for me. The up-down scrolling is annoying on...

the kindle needs to convert pdfs before they can be viewed. the conversion destroys any chart based book (been there, tried that). doesn't make it a bad product, i love mine. it does make it a poor choice to read rpg books with.

kindle is great for ebook reading but the PDF convertion is pretty poor for specially formatted books (most rpg books) i'm typing this on an acer one 8.9" mini notebook. windows xp for the o/s and it is a great pdf reader. probably better then my 22" lcd as the size seems more natural. runs...

i'm going back to my main issue... unless local is also friendly why should I consider giving them my money? Helping the local economy is not a reason for me as a consumer to avoid getting the best price possible and stretching my dollar. Helping a business that does things right is an reason...

I understand you point, but as a consumer i am concerned about two things... price and customer service. If my local game store doesn't offer one or the other I am not going to give them my business, demographics or demography be damned! ;) On a personal level its a "What's in it for me?"...

Local means nothing without "friendly" preceding it. "Friendly" is the added value I would receive for paying full price at my FLGS. My LGSs, as I've stated, are not friendly, so there is no added value for my paying full price. You seem to be putting the emphasis on "local", which holds...

As is each and evey game store... as is Amazon... they are capitalist entities. They want and need to make a profit. If the local game store can't compete with Amazon on price they better make up for it in service. Good, or even better, great service has a value to many consumers. Friendly...

I would GLADLY do the same if my LGSs were actually FLGS... but they are not. I think many gamers would pay more for friendly service, but given a choice between saving money and spending more on my gaming to support a store only because it is local... my wallet will win out every time.

Are they still in the RPG business? Nope Not a good example in my mind.
