Explain to me what OSRIC is

Stuart, how close are we to the release of OSRIC 2.0? I'm looking to start a new campaign, and I've been bouncing back and forth in my head between using OSRIC or/and C&C. I could break out my 1E books, but the combat tables in my DMG have worn off by over an inch at the corners. That and the...

Castles & Cusades: Is Crusader Magazine worth getting?

I'd have to agree that the first few issues were lacking, but I have found that to be true with most gaming mags over the years. The new staff aditions have certainly upped the quality and I expect it to continually improve.

The Case For Castles & Crusades

I'm not so sure about that. 4e doesn't play well with 3.5e. My gut tells me little will port over easy, but I've been surprised by C&C in the past. With the possible exception of healing surges I'm not sure which parts of 4e I'd have an interest in porting over.

    So..um..how's that GSL coming along?

People are paying for the conveinience of near instant satisfaction. That is why it is called "fast food". McRibs is a horrible example from my POV... you couldn't pay me to eat that (nor the homemade equivalent) ;)

How Have You Houseruled Wizards in 3.x to Be the Masters of the Universe Once Again?

Treebore (our resident C&C Advocate) has an interesting set of house rules that "kinda sorta" slip feats and skills into C&C... you may want to send him a private message here or on the Trolls' boards... the last version I saw him post over there was from March '08. (i wouldn't be surprised if i...

Explain to me what OSRIC is

I am not sure if they can be w/o risking the wrath of the TSR god's of yore... come too close and you risk the "line of copyright infringement demarcation", which is a real nebulous line in the first place ;)

How Have You Houseruled Wizards in 3.x to Be the Masters of the Universe Once Again?

Ok, so you houseruled the uberness out of 3.x wizzies and want to reflavor them with their old AD&D uberness? Are there other houserules that effect the rest of the classes? Wouldn't it have been easier to just run an AD&D campaign instead? (not trying to be snarky) Maybe look at OSRIC...

Is the economic crisis affecting your gaming purchasing?

I'm with Hobo... I just had an annual raise kick in recently. My job is safe from the economic crunch, so same purchases as usual. Which means lots of PDFs and few paper products... my crisis is storage space ;)

Oct RPG Book Club: Thieves World Box Set

Yeah, I have the Chaosium printing of it... somewhere. RPGnet RPG Game Index: Carse is a link for the cover shot.

Oct RPG Book Club: Thieves World Box Set

I might have to dig this out of storage. If I remember right Carse and Cities followed a few years later, trying the "generic" city approach that was muti-stated for different systems. Chaosium put some good stuff out back in the day (CoC has been consistantly good for the most part)

Will the real 4E please stand up?

Actually, C&C is a spiritual successor to AD&D 1e, not BECMI. Unless you are thinking of the Collector's Boxed set, which tries in evoke the spirit of OD&D in its presentation, but the rules and classes are definitely rooted in AD&D 1e.

    Sandbox-style: What's your opinion?

All DMs improvise to some extent... even published adventures can't think of everything. But published adventures, or even your own pre-written (and you know you are going to use) adventures will cover most PC choices. You can always go back to the pre-written text for the memory jog, or to...

    Sandbox-style: What's your opinion?

Sandbox to me has always meant lots of improvising, which I'm relatively good at. It also requires impecable record keeping, which I tend to lag at ;) You will need to keep pretty accurate notes, because even the encounters or plot points you may have pre-planned will require fleshing out in...

    State of the Revised GSL?

I would guess at this point we can expect the new GSL shorlty after the first licensed 4e products hit the shelves. The Rouse is wearing many hats these days, more then he has been in the past. Still a damn shame what happened with Lidda :(

WotC to Revise D&D 4th Edition GSL and SRD

Henry, I think that hits the nail on the head. If going copyright is more appealing to publishers then using the GSL then the GSL serves no purpose. The GSL was supposed to put some restrictions on the use of WotC's IP, but by being too restrictive it has prevented some publishers from...

How To Make Almost Everyone Happy

Go to the ENWorld store and you'll find all the PDFs of all the earlier veriosn that you might ever want... I don't think its making WotC a boat load of money tho. The problem with earlier editions from the POV of WotC is that it is not a growth market... old editions are a nitch in the nitch...
