    Ptolus: Adventures is now available!

That's right. This is true of all the Malavoc released Ptolus pdfs.

    Ptolus: Adventures is now available!

Yeah, that sort of bothered me when I read through the adventure. I know from experience that players aren't usually happy with pre-ordained failure.

WotC Dungeon Tiles vs. 3rd Party Products

The strength of the WoTC tiles is that they don't require any prep time- you can lay out whatever room you need on the fly, and they're generic enough to be adaptable to most dungeon maps. For most of the PDF products, you need to know exactly what room(s) you want to represent, and prepare...

[Ptolus] The Power Level of NPCs

Something to consider- discussion of attribute generation is prohibited by the d20 license, isn't it? So if Ptolus NPCs were created assuming that Ptolus PCs also had higher than normal attributes, Monte wouldn't have been able to tell us about.

What's the big deal with point buy?

I stopped having my players use point buy when got tired of every single character having a charisma of 8. Now I use the method suggested in the Shackled City hardcover- roll up three sets of "4d6 drop the lowest," and choose the best set.

Pathfinder 1E Has Paizo been selling my address?

Yeah, this is almost as ridiculous as your moral outrage at receiving an unsolicited piece of paper in the mail.

    Ptolus Centaur's.

This might be a case where common sense should overrules the rules. Having four legs could both help or hinder climbing, depending on the nature of the climb. Common sense would also argue in favor of granting quadrupeds a bonus to many balance checks.

"Try Castles & Crusades", they say. But no one's playing it!

To paraphrase one of my players reaction to Castles & Crusades, when I explained the concept to him: "Why would we want to play that when we can real D&D?" ("Real D&D" being 3.5.)

Ptolus, the Vai, and birth rates

This is in fact addressed in the book. The truth is that they only have to kill something every day, it doesn't have to be sentient.

    WotC Podcast

I've actually stopped listening to NPR on the radio, and only listen to NPR podcasts. I originally tried this to avoid the ever annoying fund-raising week, and never went back. Actually, if I were the local public radio station, I'd be annoyed that NPR releases enough of it's content through...

Looking for RPG book covers: What to buy?

I bought some black vinyl bookcovers from (I think) the Chessex booth at Gen Con in 2005. They only cost a dollar each, and I bought 3. Now I wish I had bought a lot more, because I haven't been able to find anything like them anywhere else.

    I’m NOT a bad DM.

Both starters of the "Bad DM" threads were actually describing traits that they specifically don't think make them bad DMs. So in order to be a true reflection, you'd have to explain how your crappy DM skills are incorrectly perceived by others as good.

    I'm a bad DM

Also, what does this have to do with WotC?

    Am I an atypical DM?

I think it's important to keep in mind that all of these issues could be huge at 15th level but non-existent 5th. I've noticed in the past that even some of 3e's most outspoken supporters don't play the game past 12th level.

    Why wouldn't Someone Learn Magic...

NPCs, by definition, don't get to choose their own classes- it's chosen for them by the DM. And if there's no DM, the concept 'NPC' is meaningless.

Deluxe Gaming Products - Lessons from Ptolus

I was worried about this for Ptolus, but it hasn't turned out to be an issue. I don't have any trouble carrying around the book to read on the bus or my lunch break, and looking things up in it is amazingly easy (easier than most books a fraction its size.)

d20 needs different rules for NPCs

So if the players can't be dragons, should dragons be removed from the game? If not, what's the practical difference between an "NPC only" class, and an "NPC only" race?

d20 needs different rules for NPCs

Villain classes are my favorite part of Iron Heroes, and I'd love to see a whole book full of them. The only way they "break the rules" is that they aren't constructed with classes and levels the way standard d20 characters and monsters are.
