    Giving some dailies more oomph

This is a good fix, and one that would address the larger problem of whiffing with encounter powers. Has your experience been that this speeds up play?

    D&D 4E Spheres & domains in 4e

One of the things that domains did in 3.X was to provide clerics with limited access to spells that were usually only available to Socerors/Wizards or Druids. Along these lines, domains could be worked into 4e as something like multiclass feats that would allow a Cleric to swap out their powers...

    Tell me about Ptolus

And, it's not just evil. The principal religious and secular authorities are also in the city. There is some handwaving about how this is a subtle effect of the Spire gathering any forces that might free the Galchutt, but it is a simplification that made me less interested in the setting. I'd...

What should I choose for my next system?

Try to test drive it too. I found that SW works much better in play than it reads. Oh, and I agree that the presentation can be confusing. For the Solomon Kane game, I prepared my own list that arranged edges according to level. I don't know why Pinnacle insists on comingling edges for a...

    Jumping over Opponents

The Rogue Tumble Utility Power will allow you avoid attacks of opportunity. Otherwise, it's just an Acrobatics stunt.

    Ask Wizards Response for 12/22

Yeah, it seems that there are two options in this situation: - retraining in another skill, or - treat the second one as providing skill focus Allow the player to choose.

    D20 modern Action points

That doesn't mean it's right. True enough. Not necessarily. Player choice is the issue. I just don't see why a player should be penalized when they choose to expend a limited resource by holding them to the second roll, no matter the result. As you point out, the first roll is likely (if...

    D20 modern Action points

Why abuse your players by requiring that they keep the lower roll? The purpose of action points is to mitigate the randomness of the dice. The reroll idea is interesting, though. I've always been underwhelmed by the "roll a d6 and add it to your result." Basically, that means that action...

Keep on Shadowfell - 3 players

I'll second the use of companion characters. In the past, I've had success using such characters to round out a party (i.e. adding a cleric for healing). It can also give the GM a voice within the party for exposition or other information. The key is keeping them in the background. We've...

Poll over but... keep recommending d20 Modern books! (It's all good.)

d20M Player's Companion. Absolutely the best supplement out there with lots of crunch for your game: talents, feats, builds, equipment, advanced classes, and more. After that, it depends on what you're interested in. Dark*Matter is probably the best of what you've listed.

    Would you drop this player?

Exactly! He's going to have to try and talk his way out of this spot, AND he's got to find some way to integrate his character into the game. If he's not willing to do this, then drop him.

    Mounted & Dazed?

I agree. However, the NPC would still need to use his one action to control his mount. If for some reason, the PC was unable to control the mount, then the mount may not choose to attack and may not move in the desired direction. The type and training of a mount would largely govern what a...

Anyone know when D20 Modern/Future Might Be Out?

Let's try this from another angle: What sort of game would you play with a d20M 4e? To me, the structure of classes and powers used in 4e would only be useful for limited styles of play: Gamma World and Urban Arcana (though that would probably result in an even worse knockoff of Buffy than we...

    D&D Character Builder Preview Video

Great video. They've clearly done a lot of work since GenCon. The quick character generator and the ability to customize the character sheet are great features. Now, if only it ran on a Mac.

Anyone know when D20 Modern/Future Might Be Out?

Or at least imply that we aren't likely to get an official announcement anytime soon. I'd guess that late spring would be the earliest that we might get an announcement and that an announcement at GenCon is more likely (and you might do better betting that we won't even get word then). I think...

Anyone have the new Quintessential Wizard?

I had a chance to flip through it. I liked what I saw. There is tons of crunch: new spells, rituals, feats, rules for familiars, paragon paths, magic items, and guides for designing and playing wizards and designing wizard towers. It looks like a worthwhile book. I don't know how balanced...

    Forsaken

But, the Forsaken are also consistently portrayed as one of the least wise races, particularly in regard to their fondness for poisoning things. They also don't appear to be all that observant. I'd give them a +2 INT instead. I think that works better in the context of the D&D attributes.
