How do you tab your PHB and other books?

Tabs can be useful for quick references, particularly when you GM. I use post-it notes. Tabs for the 3.5 PHB: - Skill list - Feat list - Weapon list Tabs for the Solomon Kane RPG: - Char Gen summary - Equipment list - Damage and healing - Combat summary

    The Fate of D20 Modern

I expect that Wizards will have an announcement about the future of d20M at GenCon in August.

    Good city descriptions/atmosphere settings help

Focus on what they see for their first impressions. Describe the crowds on the roads leading up to the gate and the crowded streets they find inside the walls. Think about what the PCs will want to do first do in the city (i.e. find an inn, go to the market, meet a contact, etc.).

Bard & Sorcerer - what should they be?

Yeah, my thought is that the Bard would work best as a Psychic Leader.

Rogue Sneak Attack in surprise round vs. Alertness

Alertness specifically cancels combat advantage and anything that depends on combat advantage, such as sneak attack.

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

No, my question was about how they are addressing the balance in power levels, akin to the way Cini Unisystem uses Drama points to balance Heroes and White Hats.

Swapping SWSE Skills Into D20 Modern

Why is this? Most of the Saga classes would seem to work for a modern setting. Scout and, of course, Jedi seem to be the only ones that don't fit. And, there might be a way to rework Scout. It seems like it would be easier to import what you like about d20M into Saga than to do it the other...

Serenity Role Playing Game. What is the good, the bad, and the ugly?

I've played a few sessions of both Serenity and the Battlestar RPGs and have made notes for a Serenity campaign. The changes made in Battlestar are quite welcome. In particular, the advantages and disadvantages were changed to die values that now add to skill tests, which worked very well in play.

Did Anybody Ever Play "Space Opera?"

Which is why I had so much trouble with the psi rules until I realized they were modeled on the Lensmen stories. SO character generation was lengthy and complex, but not as bad as many other games from the early 80s. One of the more complex calculations was the table to modify your attributes...

    The Hill Giant in melee

Give the Hill Giant Imp. Overrun in place of Imp. Bull Rush. That way, if the players attempt to swarm the giant, he can knock one while moving away from the others (though they might get an AoO). Alternatively, he could just plow past the fighter on his way to threaten the wizard.

    Fill my bag of holding!

What would a PC carry in a bag of holding? - wine - rations - rope - bandages - repair kits - extra clothes - a notebook - etc. The immediate past owner of the bag may have had some other personal items that they placed in the bag.

    Joy. It's the Buddy's Girlfriend.

Along these lines, look to see what interests her in the campaign, then provide her with subplots or other moments in the spotlight where she can develop those interests. Even if she is going to be a casual player, look for ways to draw her into the game.

    Grappling with Grappling

In my next my next campaign (if I get it going before 4e), I'm going to allow a Reflex save for drawing a weapon and some other actions. I'd also love to see a way to do damage to Evard's Black Tentacles as a way to defeat that spell, but I'm not sure that I'll spend the time to modify it.

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

Interesting. Are you going to have some balancing mechanic similar to the ways that Drama Points work differently for Heroes and White Hats in Cinematic Unisystem?

5th Level Wizard Has 2 Daily And 2 Encounter Powers

Wizards has said that you'll have an "interesting choice" to make at each level advancement. Previously, I had taken this to mean something like how you choose a new talent or feat every level in SW Saga. Now, it looks like it will be powers and feats.

d20 modern. Sources of Advanced classes?

As for most d20M questions, your first stop should be the Modern Player's Companion from Green Ronin. I also recommend that you check out the extensive selection of pdfs available at RPGNow.com.

The Odyssey System -- Stripped-down Hot Rod d20 rules

A very interesting idea to use an open choice of talent trees and feats in place of classes. Going without skills might work, particularly if what would be skill checks default to an attribute save that could be modified by a talent and/or a feat. Similarly, a Perception attribute would work...
