    D&D 5E (2014) silver standard

Well, when I did it, I just made sure that I made most transactions in silver pieces. When you do that, you start getting a bit more precise when you do prices - what would normally be a 10 GP per week stay at a nice inn is now 115 silver per week... while the one down the street is 110 silver...

    D&D 5E (2014) Character Options

No problem. One of the great things about this board these days is that people can disagree and it's all good. Much better than the 4e days. People died, man.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are monk's unarmed attacks weapon attacks?

Sure. And I usually fully agree. But sometimes, just allowing a remove curse can be an easy way to keep the game moving. I'll make a few rolls to make sure that the weapon gets a "Saving throw", so that in the future, I can do something a bit more fun that leads to an adventure.

    D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone created a new faction?

I have a bunch in my campaign, and yes, they're a lot of fun! Knights of the Scale: When the demons were unleashed in my campaign, the dragons found that their eggs were being corrupted. So, most dragons put their eggs under the guardianship of a group of protectors. Even though the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are monk's unarmed attacks weapon attacks?

The monk's not neutered at all. One of his class abilities is substantially weaker, sure, but sometimes bad things happen as a result of your choices. He's aware of this, and enjoying it. And I'll be running it as is, once he removes the curse. The weapon IS intelligent, evil, and is gonna...

    Favourite Adventure Modules

Five great modules you should play: 1. The Isle of Dread. It's a giant island that your players can explore as they see fit. There are a few quests, but really, they will make their own goals. I've run this a few times, and I don't ever recall anyone ever actually trying to finish it. It's...

    Good world building guide

Second (or third?) World Builder's Guidebook. Had it for almost two decades now, and whenever I start up a new world, it's a resource I turn to. There's a bunch of tables to consult if you don't have an idea for what to put in an area. It usually leads to some weird stuff that, if you put a...

D&D 5E (2014) How to make an awesome Underdark encounter table in 5e?

Looks like a good start. I notice you've got Raggomuffyns on the list. Is there a 5e conversion I'm unaware of? They were always kind of neat monsters.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ideas for shipwreck area?

Oo! A fun subplot: Artificial islands SUCK for navigation. Pieces break off and often float just beneath the waves, which can damage boats. They're called deadheads, and they suck. Naturally, mariners would want some sort of warning set up. So, in this area of enchanted ships and evil...

D&D 5E (2014) Best DUNGEON modules, any edition, to convert to 5th?

What's the general gist of it?

    D&D 5E (2014) Are monk's unarmed attacks weapon attacks?

The funny thing is, the monk took this sort of cursed sword, and for the first bit of combat, everyone thought "whoa, that's an awesome weapon!". So he tried to give it to the fighter, and realized he couldn't... and that's when everyone went "uh oh". I've ruled that his attacks count as...

oo! I'll check that one out, definitely. Can't wait to run that adventure.

    D&D 5E (2014) Are monk's unarmed attacks weapon attacks?

So, the party monk made the mistake of attuning to the intelligent +1 Short Sword of Vengeance. The rules say that "any attack made with a weapon besides the sword are at disadvantage". Does that mean that the monk's unarmed attacks are at disadvantage? They are listed on the weapon table...

    D&D 5E (2014) Character Options

This. Well said, and I fully agree. It was for a similar reason that we, as a group, decided to not allow feats at first level. Give the PCs a bit of time to grow before we muddy the game with feats. We're going to let that rule slip next campaign (and get rid of the two problem feats!), but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Character Options

I am not convinced that this analogy really works. I don't think part of the game is building your character. It can be fun for some people, but it's not really a "part" of the game. To me, that's like saying setting up the monopoly board is part of the game. I wouldn't be saying you have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Any cool adventure mashups?

Well, my campaign is a bunch of unrelated adventures. There is no overarching story arc, but there are events that carry on that the PCs can get involved in. I also drop in hooks for several adventures in each adventure I run, and the PCs chase the hooks that interest them. In my current...

    D&D 5E (2014) Character Options

I like civil disagreements like this. Makes me glad we're not in the "good ol' days" where any sort of opinion difference lead to muskets at dawn. That's kind of a flawed argument - reducing the argument to its most illogical extreme. Just because monks don't exist, doesn't mean you can't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Character Options

Allow me to reply, even though others have said similar things. I like to reply to direct quotes. Well, it's the GM's job to control the table. Ultimately, the GM is the one who is running the game. I'd never run a game of Shadowrun at my table - I have no buy-in with the system. Likewise...

D&D 5E (2014) How to make an awesome Underdark encounter table in 5e?

Hm. That's something I never thought of. Conceivably it's doable. What's the new MS Program that does lists? I can't remember its name, but it's probably what you'd be looking for. In any case, I'd make each tag also tied to level so you can make "ECL" groupings for tables of varying levels...

D&D 5E (2014) How to make an awesome Underdark encounter table in 5e?

Okay. Been kind of thinking about this on the backburner for the last few hours while doing some house work. Here's how I'd do it: 1. Create a list of monsters, and their relative frequency (Common, Uncommon, etc). Tie those to your various "terrain types" of the underdark. I'd go with...
