Unearthed Arcana Psionics Hits Unearthed Arcana

Ha, jumping the gun a bit aren't we? Unless you're just naturally anti-psionic? I mean, I'm an anti-psion type guy, but I don't really mind this one so far. Mostly because the science-y names are gone, and it just seems like an altered wizard, which is something I'm totally okay with.

D&D 5E (2014) Phandelver and Red Larch....I'm rethinking my approach to towns

Sure. So why not just use downtime to hand-wave over it all? Give players rumors, just like in the old 1e books? Basically how I'd do it if I were to run the adventure (though I doubt I ever will - I like my adventures shorter).

D&D 5E (2014) Phandelver and Red Larch....I'm rethinking my approach to towns

Well, different strokes and all that - I love town encounters, and my players kind of do, too. I run a sandboxy game, too, where I always drop three hooks to the players - each one is a different adventure. The players pick which adventure they want to "bite", and I prep it. It's working...

    D&D 5E (2014) Doing 5ed without classes.

How I'd do it: You get a couple of base classes. Let's say we go with two base classes - warrior and specialist. Warriors get good hit dice, specialists get more skills. You pick two saves, one is a good save (CON, DEX, or WIS) and the other is not so good. Each level, you get a "perk"...

    Gay Rights

Ok, I'm curious. What exactly do you mean here? Are they pushed through without a vote? The House of Lords is similar to the Senate in the US and Canada, correct? In that it's appointed by political appointment, not through a vote? Do these church of England appointments have to be filled...

    D&D 5E (2014) PIBFing the Monster Manual

Basilisk Lair Statues (1d6 statues in lair) 1. An elven wizardess, using the edge of her robe to protect a small child (who apparently escaped) 2. A dwarven priest, eyes half-closed, praying to an unknown deity 3. A human bard with a confident grin, holding a mirror out. Unfortunately, it's...

New D&D Survey: What Do you Want From Older Editions?

You know, I love all the talk about a warlord being back in the game. I loved the 4e Bravura warlord, it was so much fun to play. And I for one never had a problem with warlord healing, even when someone was at 0. I mean, it's pretty easy to fluff that sort of stuff out. (Guy is down, barely...

    D&D 5E (2014) PIBFing the Monster Manual

Man, this is the best thread in a long time. I kind of want to add to it, but feel like I'd be defacing a work of art.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sane Magic Item Prices

You know what I've been doing? At the end of every adventure, the PCs get invited to a "night market" held by the magic item smugglers known as the Gray Wizards. These events have a couple dozen items (mostly magical, but also weird things, like a petrified pseudodragon) for sale. I list a...

    D&D 3.x 1e, 2e, 3/3.5e or 4e to 5e Conversion guidelines?

I've posted this before, but I'll repeat here because it's pertinent - converting adventures to 5e from other editions (or even other games!) is super easy. In fact, I'm about 25% of the way through converting Dungeon Crawl Classics "People of the Pit"... and I started an hour ago. And that's...

    The Elder Scrolls RPG

Been playing Elder Scrolls since Morrowind, and there's a pretty good list of the major points. First, I think you NEED the sandboxy feel. I love playing Skyrim and just stumbling on some random dungeon or quest line, and going from there. It's just fun times. I disagree with people saying...

D&D 5E (2014) Short One-Off RPG Boxed Set Games based on the 5e engine

I love the idea. The Gamma World 4e boxed set was one of the few 4e products that I actually loved. That being said, I'd offer a few small tweaks to your idea: 1. Let players make their own characters. It doesn't need to be in depth, but the option has to be there. 2. Have a few short...

D&D 5E (2024) Twelve actions for an even fresher 6th edition, or for an ultra-basic retooling of 5e

Yeah, most of those points have nothing to do with "eurogames". Geez, Settlers of Catan isn't even exactly a good example of a "eurogame", because it has direct player conflict (in the guise of the robber). A "eurogame", to use a general definition, has these general points: 1. No direct...

D&D 5E (2014) Some clever ideas wanted for a twist my players threw at me

So many great ideas here! I'm looking forward to my prep time tomorrow, where I can nail this all down! Since it's come up, Reginald's haunting of the pool has already been established. Basically, while the keep was still being built, Reginald and his buddy (the keep's master) were...

AD&D 2E Are all my 2E books worthless now?

I recently converted a 2e adventure from Dungeon ("Keep for Sale") to 5th. I probably took more steps than absolutely necessary, but decided to be studious. 1. First, I rolled on the treasure hoards table. I rolled twenty random individual treasures for level 1 monsters, and then rolled up...

D&D 5E (2014) [Dark Sun] How Would YOU Handle Defiling in 5e?

Sure, that works too. I think when I get around to doing defiling, I'm just gonna have a few basic options for what PCs can do with it, and let them choose each time. Something like: * +1 spell level * Rush of endorphins gives you advantage on next d20 roll you make before end of next turn...

D&D 5E (2014) Some clever ideas wanted for a twist my players threw at me

This is exactly the sort of idea I was hoping for. Love stuff like this, and it could be a perfect fit. Gives the players what they want, without exactly giving what they want.

D&D 5E (2014) Some clever ideas wanted for a twist my players threw at me

So, we just finished up the old 2e Dungeon Mag adventure "keep for sale". In it, the Players found a magical pool that was "haunted" by the spirit of a dead bard named Reginald. Reginald, in my 5e conversion, is a 7th level bard who can cast spells from his magic pool, but little else. The...
