    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

Would putting Superior Technique in the PHB suffice?

    D&D 5E (2024) Fighter (Playtest 7)

I don’t like the Brawler subclass. I thought I did, but then realised it only works with one default Fighting Style (Defense); is redundant with one Tasha’s Style (Unarmed Fighting — as it is a fighting style feat turned into a whole subclass tree); and only works with two other Tasha’s Styles...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Survey Feedback: Weapon Mastery Spectacular; Warlock and Wizard Mixed Reactions

Yeah, the return of class-based spell lists makes me very worried for what I thought was the coolest thing about the playtest entirely. As a Bard-lover, this opened up worlds of new stories to tell. I also liked the choice of casting ability for warlocks, though I didn't like it being attached...

D&D 5E (2024) Lawful, Chaotic, and Neutral touched species.

To be fair, I still can't say the species name Aasimar without snickering. In my game, I've renamed them Azuras (an allusion to Asuras / Ahura of Vedic/Persian veneration), but also to the Azure sky.

Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants Review

They are? That's good to hear. The D&D Beyond version feels extremely barren of artwork. Which is weird because this is one of the most flavourfully brilliant works of 5e. And they found a way to bring back 4e's Titans (as Elemental Cradles of the Scions who are Titans) and Eldritch Giants...

D&D 5E (2024) Lawful, Chaotic, and Neutral touched species.

I like the 4e idea that Tieflings were a group of human nobles from a dying empire that turned to pacts with devils to defeat the Dragonborn empire that had them on the brink of extinction. Now both empires are dead, and Tieflings are the descendants of these Warlock nobles that were...

D&D 5E (2024) Lawful, Chaotic, and Neutral touched species.

Didn't even think of that as linking them but hell yes! Even more so, I feel strongly about this. Glitchling/Ardling/Plasmoid Neutrals ftw!

D&D 5E (2024) Lawful, Chaotic, and Neutral touched species.

I don't want the alignments to be baked in, but something like the Aasimar and Tiefling but for the Lawful Outer Planes and the Chaotic Outer Planes and the Outlands, yes. In fact, my opinion is to do this: Glitchling/Modron for Lawful Plasmoid for Chaotic Ardling for Neutral I know Ardling...

D&D 5E (2024) If there are no half-elves or half-orcs will there be Tieflings (half fiends)?

The problem with Half-elves and Half-orcs, is that the half- is built into the name itself. For Half-orc, I think replacing with Orc works just fine. "Orc" refers to anyone with Orcish features, including Half-orc/half-humans and Half-orc/half-hobgoblins, etc. For Half-elf, I think it may be...

D&D 5E (2024) If there are no half-elves or half-orcs will there be Tieflings (half fiends)?

Goliath absolutely includes Half-Giants. The two have been equated ever since 2010's Dark Sun Campaign Setting. Of course, 5e also makes clear that Goliaths can be descendants of other peoples with giant-blood in their ancestries, or their own people that have descent in part from giants but...

D&D 5E (2024) Monks Are Not Tanks And Shouldn’t Be

I know they appeared in Complete Adventurer, but even in 3e they were more a martial arts class than an expert or thief esque class. They just had too many other warriors to fit another into Complete Warrior and had to stuff the Monk somewhere. It's a reason why it's called as such and not...

D&D 5E (2024) We have Arcane, Divine, and Primal lists now. Why not Psionic?

I agree with that. But I do think conceptually this is the idea and why Elemental and Astral would not have their own spell lists here. The idea is to shrink the number of spell lists, not broaden them. You're of course allowed to homebrew whatever you want!

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

Mu. The Outlands, the Outer Planes, and the Astral Sea are all their own wanderers - their own planetos, their own planes of existence. They are not matroyshka dolls nor are they physically the same space except where and when they are. They are not floating in the Astral Sea. They overlap in...

    D&D 5E (2024) Subclasses

THANK YOU. Finally someone answers my question. I watched all the videos but I must have missed that line while I was cooking one day while watching. However… it still doesn't mean that the Necromancer is necessarily in the PHB, if they do the Death Domain Cleric and Oathbreaker Paladin in the...

D&D 5E (2024) We have Arcane, Divine, and Primal lists now. Why not Psionic?

The description of the Primal spell list makes explicit that includes the elemental powers of the inner planes alongside the primal spirits of natural world. I'd argue that Astral is similarly included in Divine. Planar source of magic ≠ Magic Spell List. There's a reason why we never got a...

D&D 5E (2024) Monks Are Not Tanks And Shouldn’t Be

… '>_> … Monk was considered a Psionic class in 4e, not a Martial class. In any case, I agree with Mephisto. The mechanics have to surround and sustain a pre-existing flavour. The flavour does NOT flow from the mechanics; the flavour pre-exists the mechanics in the history of the fiction...

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

I would make the areas beyond the gatetowns into variations on the Backrooms that slide further and further into uncanny liminality until finally you're in the Far Realms.

Planescape Planescape Pre-order Page Shows Off The Books!

The edge in a sense is that beyond the gate towns, the outer planes exist. But the Outlands also coexists beyond them. When a gate town gets too close in alignment to it's corresponding outer plane, the town shifts into that outer plane and "expands" it. But the Outlands don't shrink as a...

D&D 5E (2024) Monks Are Not Tanks And Shouldn’t Be

I agree with you, though I also think the base monk is ironically absurdly narrow in theme, where real world martial artists (if we're deciding Monks are the martial artist class and not something else) are not JUST Judoka or Sumo Rikishi -- heck, even Boxers use gauntlets. Aikido masters are...
