Hit Points & Healing Surges Finally Explained!

I think everyone understands and understood there was a level of abstraction in HP. They have problems with it being abstract strained muscles when its continuing poison or fire damage. Or how you are just winded, and the next HP of damage makes you dieing. You are dieing and then all of a...

    You an' FRED

In case anyone cares the online champions game is what sparked them making a 6e. Basically what was going to me the Marvel comics MMORPG fell through, and the company that was making it (Cryptic I think) scrambled for a new intellectual property to hang there super hero games name on. Some of...

The fireball spell through the editions

I loved that stuff, it kept magic magical for me. Once it got reliable it just became a tool. I wont knock the benefits that can come with it, but I prefer slower and clunkier if I can have my cool.

6 months later: impressions of 4e

I would not mind power creep if it had patches for older material so it creeped up along with it. Basic example for me is skills. While I never played epic games in 3e, I liked the idea of skills going so far that you could run on water or on a cloud with a high enough balance check...

The fireball spell through the editions

Weirdly enough, despite this in 3e wizards became more powerful than ever before. I thought thieves needed work in the previous editions, but most of the other classes actually in game play worked out well. In 2e as you leveled, you encountered Magic resistance, much nastier than 3es spell...

How is that babe in the barely there armor getting any AC bonus?

I'm not making a broad generalization, I'm making a generalization about broads. Insert bad joke sound here. I really wish I could remember where that joke is from.

Yeah I was mainly making a funny on macs, but I see your point. 4e suits us fairly well so far so its working out.

6 months later: impressions of 4e

I think everything is too constrained. Its HP damage and some small effect. And the HP damage does not scale up very impressively. If you want to follow the HP damage and some effect model it should be. Heroic tier HP damage and a small effect is fine. Paragon tier it should be HP damage...

6 months later: impressions of 4e

I am not happy with how classes were balanced in 4e. In 4e IMO classes were balanced by making them all suck equally. While harder to do I'd of preferred they be balanced by making them all awesome equally. While I think the balance issues in 3e were exaggerated a bit the balance issues...

4e is like a Mac so 4e is streamlined, easier to use, but not compatible with most games. :p

    Grading At-Will Powers

Yeah I rate those differently Earth Shield Strike . Teh awesome. You hit and get a minor AC boost. B+ Strength of Stone Hit and get temp HPS great at low levels average higher levels up. If you have a good con which you effectively avoid small amounts of damage every time you hit. And...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

Thanks for the response and the same to all the others with a similar its easier to create balanced and fun encounters responses. I guess for me I never really fully stated things in 3e so I am not seeing any time savings, and my rules nerdiness was high enough I could instantly see what...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

Thank you for your response. I can totally see that. 3e, does imply you should be by the rules for NPC creation. I just don't stat most thing sin 3e. Shopkeeper, the only thing stated is like his will save and social skills, and maybe spot to see if he notices slight of hand. I don't...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

Thank you. I can see how for you 4e beings this out, that area of adventure/campaign design holds little interest to me so its not benefit for me. But I'm having fun and so are the players. The true test is will we still be having fun 2 years from now. In recent years its a rare system I am...

Why do you keep playing 4e?

I like 4e so far. I am having fun and so are the players. We like the tactical miniatures side of things.(one likes this side too much IMO) Its quick and easy to run, everyone has maneuvers, even if overpriced I really dig rituals. But since I saw this and the legion of THIS responses, I...

What Is It About the Fantasy Genre Anyway?

I'm happy playing anything. I prefer running fantasy. If I run a sci-fi or modern game there are a multitude extra levels of planing i have to do, to account for all the crap the players can and will come up with. Add in that I game with a bunch of science types and I honestly can't answer...

4 elven bow rangers and a leader....ultimate party?

I don't see the controller in our group hitting more than 2 minion often. The cleric has when being swarmed by undead, but I suspect twin strike would have 90% of the time matched up with the minion clearing power of our wizard.

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

I don't see how that destroys any realism arguments from the 3e proponents. Realism is supposed to be realism in a Fantasy world where you somehow can kill a 20 foot animate slab of iron with a sword, or kill giant flying lizards with weapons proportionally smaller than a toothpick to us, or...

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

It was not demanded no, heck I can't think of anything that is demanded in an RPG. But I think 4e pushes you towards it more than any previous edition. While we are still having fun, but I think the reduction in simulationist gaming will probably effect the replayability or long term...

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

In my experience past the low-mid levels most spell books and scrolls from adventures looked a lot a like. While you did in fact have a decent chance at a fairly hefty spell book of your own, I rarely got much past a certain common list from scrolls and spell books. I had no where near the...
