    Dragon 370 - Invoker Preview

It is not 8 damage it is 1 damage to 8 opponents, and yes that is still negligible. There is a big, huge, whopping difference between 8 damage and 1 damage to 8. 8 damage has a decent shot of meaning something, I think it is fairly rare for 1 point of damage to actually pan out as making a...

    Dragon 370 - Invoker Preview

I know it was a joke. But if it fit the character then yes. Though my general preference in feats is to take feats that give me an ability, not feats that give me a small bonus to what i do.

When did We Stop Trusting Game Designers?

Um the idea to custom build the cleric class to different Gods, hmmn where have i heard requests for that... Oh wait every time a discussion of 3e and 4e clerics comes up. Yes, you could build a near spell less priest, you could also build a priest focused even more on spell casting. I think...

    Dragon 370 - Invoker Preview

I don't get it either. doing 2d6+11 instead of 2d6+10 is low on my must have list.

    Dragon 370 - Invoker Preview

We've only seen the first 3 levels of invoker, but i'd say those encounter and dailies are as good or better than most. And there at wills are clearly just better than the wizards.

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

It can be potent. But we have found it not to be in almost every fight so far. So far all it has really done is well nothing, they fall down, there up and charge the party. The range of 10(especially since the wizard is usually not in the front ranks) makes it so the targets need to be in the...

Mearls on Controller design and At-Will balance

what is weird for me is I found the wizard at wills(at least in the context of the PH classes) solid to some of the best. But I found the per encounters which are apparently fine kind of weak. I rarely would see the need to use the encounter powers over the at will at low levels at least...

When did We Stop Trusting Game Designers?

You know this kind of proclamation I like. 1. It gives a guideline. 2. It gives reasons for said guidelines. With both 1 &2 you get to see potential pitfalls and decide whether or not its a good idea for your game to do it anyways. I'd of added to those reasons, why the heck would you...

When did We Stop Trusting Game Designers?

Well, now I'm tempted to post under a real name, and be a big jerk. Just not my real name, the real name of someone i don't like would work.

    D&D 4E Are humans balanced in 4e?

Well said. I basically agree, though IMO the human is a really close 1st loser in most cases. The level of imbalance in the races I am aware of is small enough that I feel I can safely ignore it. Time my tell a different story though, I do miss things form time to time.

    D&D 4E Are humans balanced in 4e?

Humans were not overpowered in 3e. They allowed people to hit character concepts more fully and quicker but a +2 to a stat was a very powerful thing. Especially when +spellcasting stat races started coming out. A feat just does not match up with a +2 to int, wis or chr. Humans made thenon...

    Alchemy

Well sure for a character concept I can see how spending a feat can be worth it, having a character actual fit the concept you are looking for is really cool. But in a mechanical sense I don't see it as worth it. Smokestick and clear-water are cool. The rest the cost scales way too high and...

    Alchemy

A couple of the items maybe, but the vast majority are ridiculously overpriced one shot items. I don't see how making a handful of useful items over the course of 30 levels makes it worth a feat.

    Making adjustments to Rituals?

For me it is totally because I think the imagery of the ritual taking 10+ minutes to do some minor magical effect is just boring, lame, uninspiring. Pick your favorite adjective, I just kind of think if the ritual takes longer than a Disney villains singing ritual in a movie the imagery of...

    Alchemy

Is anyone actually taking Alchemy? Is this just an out of curiosity question, or is this something you expect to see in play? I'm asking, because I can't see why anyone would take the alchemy feat or why they'd make any of the items. If I am missing something I'd like to know.

Where Has All the Magic Gone?

I am disappointed in how for me the magic left the game. I also think a lot of the things that gave it the magical feeling helped balance the game. And 3e became a spell caster paradise because of it. Fireballs not filling a volume made the fireball spell absurdly reliable, same with...

    Can a human do this?

I would not allow that grey area to fly. I think it takes away form the 1/2 elf racial too much. In a campaign with no 1/2 elves i might allow it.

    Making adjustments to Rituals?

sure and a lot of those reasons were really bad, and the new rules end up making the game lame in the other direction. I have no desire to see rituals happening in rounds, but the 10 minute baseline for most rituals I find to be overboard in the extreme. A couple minutes tops for the vast...

    Super-Hero systems: pros and cons

I almost agree entirely with this post. I'm more Hero, M&M, Shadowrun2e. (for D&D its more the its D&D factor than the specific rules, so any edition works for me to some degree, though 2e and then BECM are probably my favorites.)

Does everyone take Superior Weapon Proficiencies?

I expect down the line people will take superior weapon, i don't expect to see many people take toughness. Most wont take it for the same reason I won't. I like feats that provide more active benefits instead of passive ones. Even if its a really cool passive benefit a few extra HP I don't...
