Single Encounter per Day XP Calculation?

Huh? If you give an EL +4 encounter, sure it's harder but they're also earning proportionately more XP. Only if you give EL +0 XP for an EL +4 encounter does what you're saying make sense.

Single Encounter per Day XP Calculation?

When the PCs have a single encounter in a day (e.g., a wandering monster result while traveling), how do you handle the XP? I had a party with an ECL of 7 facing an EL 7 encounter and it was embarassing how easily they mopped the floor of the enemy. They just brought out all the big guns and...

That's it; I am done buying minis'!

People, please don't compare Reaper to DDM; they're apples and oranges. Reaper is much higher quality sculpts, made of metal, and much more expensive on a per mini basis. Reaper is great for buying NPC and PC minis. Reaper sucks for buying large numbers of monsters. DDM is generally not as...

Forked Thread: Alignment *huh* What is it good for?

Then you didn't understand the 3E alignment system. Good and Evil were actual forces. It didn't matter whether someone "thought" they were Good or Evil (or whatever in between), their actions slotted them into one of those categories. Really, this is the only way the system could ever have...

    Monster Stat Blocks

I can't remember the poster's name (and my links no longer work :erm:) but there was a reviewer of new products on EN World who posted corrected stat block revisions for all the books he reviewed. Very useful.

    Minotaurs can't get lost????

The OP might want to make his first posting clearer. It wasn't until reading through the thread that I realized it was a PC asking and that he was trying to find his way through a maze. Seriously though, mazes can be incredibly boring to play. You come to a T-junction. You go left. You come to...

How many monsters/encounter do you use in 3e?

Amen brother! The group I was DM'ing took out 34 lizardfolk plus the leader with no losses (and not even the threat of a loss) of their own. Even grappling didn't really help as the lizardfolk were usually cut down by the AoO. The abysmal attack bonus of the lizardfolk made them largely...

    "That's not a realistic elf!"

Stereotypes, rightly or wrongly, usually have some basis of fact. There's something that enables people to connect the stereotype with the subject. It may be wildly over exaggerated, but if you look long enough you'll usually find some basis for it. One of my pet peeves is when people want to...

    Comprehensive WotC 3.5 Index ... ?

There's also a thread on EN World (started by me :)) that has most of the NPCs from every WotC book listed. Someone even compiled it into an Excel spreadsheet. Here's the link: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=175367

    Battlemat storage

DO NOT FOLD IT! That will ruin it before you know it. Go to an art supply store. They sell black plastic tubes, about 3-5 inches in diameter, that come with a shoulder strap and can be adjusted (twist and pull, then twist back to lock in place) to varying lengths. It'll cost you $20. Artists...

    4e on Best Seller lists

I don't put much value in sales for the core rulebooks. Those sales will always be high. It's the stuff that comes out after that is demonstrative of how popular the new edition is.

    Skirmish?

Was he doing the 10 feet as two 5-foot steps (thru an ability/magic item?) or was he doing it as part of a move action?

    Skirmish?

The errata says the scout must, (1) move at least 10 feet away from where they started; and (2) the benefits only kick in after moving at least 10 feet. If you move 15 feet away then 15 feet back, you have moved away and you have moved at least 10 feet. Both criteria have been fulfilled. What...

    D&D 3.x Converting 4E Minion Concept to 3.5E ???

Agreed, but it drives up the XP. I'm looking for a way to adapt the 4E minion rules to 3E, but you can't just do a straight lift due to different mechanics of the rule systems (specifically, iterative attacks).

    D&D 3.x Converting 4E Minion Concept to 3.5E ???

Damage output is irrelevant since any damage kills a minion. You could say that a Cleave attack can kill a minion in one shot. But still, if you can cleave off iterative attacks it's the same problem.

    D&D 3.x Converting 4E Minion Concept to 3.5E ???

I think one 3E issue that needs addressing is that multiple attacks based on high BAB enable minions to be dealt with that much quicker in 3E vs. 4E. In 4E, one successful attack kills one minion. Most people will have one attack per round (usually). But in 3E you can quickly get to the point...
