    I believe a magic item in the possession of a PC gets to use the PC's save modifiers or the item's modifiers, whichever are better (usually the PC's). An item not in a PC's possession uses the item's save modifiers.

    There's also a low-level Draconomicon spell called razorfang (IIRC) that doubles its threat range with a bite or claw attack, which is nice to have.

    Suggestions for speeding up our 4e game

    Know when to end battles. If the monsters are clearly going to lose and it's just a matter of grinding them down, either hand wave it and say they're dead or have them run/surrender. There's no need to waste time needlessly.
