    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Design Goals (Article)

I can't agree with you here. This article shines even more light on their very high level design goals. It's always illuminating reading how they communicate between themselves. :) -YRUSirius

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Beyond Class & Race

I don't know exactly what Themes are like in the current iteration of D&D 5E, but from what I read from the blog and how this compares to what I know from the Dragon Age Pen & Paper RPG, I'll try to give an answer. You would't chose multiple Themes per se. You would chose _feats_ from different...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Beyond Class & Race

Anyone else feeling the strong mechanical/game design influence from Chris Pramas' Dragon Age Pen & Paper RPG? :) Themes (slayer, knight, archer, two weapon) = combat style talents (two handed, sword and board, two weapon, archery)? Quasi fixed progression for classes coming in packages, but...

Better than having skills and feats without any order or without any flavor attached to them whatsoever. Just cold mechanics are... well, cold. :) -YRUSirius

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Beyond Class & Race

Yeah, me too. I'd like to have as few classes as possible, makes the core game more elegant. 4E had a few classes too many. Give us more themes (subclasses) instead. I could even live with the 4 base classes alone and the more classic extended classes (barbarian, bard, druid, ranger, etc...) as...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog: Beyond Class & Race

"Themes" are nothing else than the "sub-classes" from D&D Essentials (slayer, knight) or the builds from classic D&D 4E. "Backgrounds" are kinda like the 4E themes but without powers. Feats seem to have replaced 4E powers and 3E feats, because they will provide the fighter with new "maneuvers"...

    D&D 4E Combining Vancian and Will/Daily from 4E

What if there won't be general feats but only class specific feats that fit the role of d20 modern/star wars saga class talents? Say fighters only got to chose between fighter feats and wizards only got to chose wizard feats. In this variant class feats would fulfill the role of 4E class powers...

    D&D 4E Combining Vancian and Will/Daily from 4E

I'm okay with encounter powers, because they can be presented as a pretty elegant fatigue mechanic. In a quick burst of time (1:30 m combat/encounter) you have only so much energy to fight efficiently or cast spells. That's why I never had problems with encounter spells - not even encounter...

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

One of the (more reasonable) d&d next playtest leaks has something like that. 4 short rests that allow healing; 2 'minor' short rests that heal like 1 hp per level and 2 'major' short rests that heal 25% of the total hitpoint. Personally I'd like to see it simplified even more (4-5 short rests...

    D&D 4E Combining Vancian and Will/Daily from 4E

I said the following in the 1E arcane magic thread, but I'll repeat it here if you don't mind: I'd like to see daily spells eliminated completely. Keep encounter spells though, which replenish after a short rest and coin their game term something like rest spells. Balance them appropriately...

    The Rogue and Sneak Attacking

The Facebook D&D game "Heroes of Neverwinter" simplified flanking in the following pretty beatiful way: Every time you outnumber a foe in melee you "flank" him and he grants you "combat advantage". Say you - the thief - and your fighter friend engage the same goblin in melee. No matter where...

    AD&D 1E Should 5e adopt 1e style arcane magic?

I'd like to see daily spells eliminated completely. Keep encounter spells though, which replenish after a short rest and coin their game term something like rest spells. Balance them appropriately. Spells still have to be prepared after a short rest. And I'd like to see 20 spell levels. Every...

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

Yes, technically they may be "magical" in 3E/4E and in previous editions too. But they could be easily fluffed as non magical (alchemy, herbal lore) means to heal hp. In low magic campaigns they could be herb medicine etc that the old witches brew, etc that give life energy back. That white...

    April 3rd, Rule of 3

Well, they wouldn't close gaping wounds. The wounds would still be there and bleeding. But a fighter who uses his second wind ability just keeps on fighting (think Boromir). -YRUSirius
