How did you learn how to play?

I voted the first option, but it was really a mixture of the first two: taught by a friend and self taught by reading the books.

    EN Milestones

I don't remember when I first discovered Eric's old site, but I do know how: I had started visiting and posting on the WotC boards after 3E came out. But I was a little put off by the attitudes of some of the posters, and the damn things kept crashing and would remain down for 2-3 days or...

    Firefly RPG I want it!

I'm not sure I understand this statement. Are you talking about personal armor, or ship's armor. Because as far as I can tell, the Serenity doesn't have much in the way of ship's armor. So Traveller would be perfect for that. And the characters in Firefly don't appear to be wearing any personal...

    Should probably be niche. :)

What products (if any) bring you the best city-related experience?

Back in 1E and 2E both, I used Lankmar as the basis for a city-based campaign and crammed it with almost every entry in the City Books. Those were good campaigns, and so easy to run. For 3E, I like bits and pieces from a lot of different city settings -- most of them listed above -- but the...

I Need Advice From D&D Folks...

Anyone who does or tries to do anything creative that receives public exposure, esp. via the Internet, should expect to get some negative feed-back. Just consider it for what it is: if it offers constructive criticism or helpful suggestions, fine; if it's just a flame or a rant, ignore it. F...

    Whole lotta lurkin' goin' on

Not only did they register and not post, but they even picked out an avatar picture. That's what really surprised me.

    Whole lotta lurkin' goin' on

Another interesting thing I found is that, if you click on your name inside a thread and look at your public profile, it gives the daily average number of posts you make from the date that you first registered. Mine usually stays around 1.5 posts a day. I know there are many, many days on which...

Just padding that total with another cheap post, huh? :D

    Whole lotta lurkin' goin' on

I think it is interesting that on another Internet message board where I post frequently (not a gaming board; it's more sports-related), and which also has tens of thousands of registered users, the breakdown of number of posts runs pretty much the same: almost half the registered users have...

    Whole lotta lurkin' goin' on

I'm really bored at work tonight (this morning), so I've been scrolling through the members list here on EN World, and I've noticed some interesting things. Of the 30,850 registered users, almost half -- 14,730 -- have never posted. 490 pages worth of non-posting members (at 30 users per...

    Alchohol During A D&D Game?

We will often have a beer or two, or a glass of wine or two, during a game session. I'll even occassionally drink a Crown and Coke, or Crown on the rocks (gotta keep those dice bags coming). But we never drink to the point of intoxication. We save that for the New Year's Eve party.

Traveller T20: Tales of the Bray Keaven [Updated 12-20-05]

Chapter X Date: 210-993 Location: Aboard the Bray Keaven and Blue Donovan, approaching Kerin's Tyr A strangled groan emits from Saro as an ugly suspicion rises. Glancing anxiously at Aidan, Saro quickly yet cautiously approaches the open container in an attempt to get a better look at...

    Animal miniatures?

I was having the same problem with my sorcerer character, which had the Summon Monster spell. Then I started using D&D Miniatures, and they work pretty well. At each level of the spell, I picked the two monsters from each level of the spell which would be most useful in combat in most...

Minis and Grids, do you use them?

Somewhere between answer No. 1 and No. 3. We use them pretty much all the time for combats and for some complex rooms/dungeon areas/traps/dangerous situations. But there are some sessions we don't use them at all.

Traveller T20: Tales of the Bray Keaven [Updated 12-20-05]

Chapter IX Date: 210-993 Location: Aboard the Bray Keaven, approaching Kerin's Tyr Vargas keeps trying to push the Bray Keaven to close faster with the Blue Donovan. The Bray Keaven is already in an almost–ideal, near–zero–degree–deflection firing angle (almost directly astern), and Vargas...

[Eberron] Names, names and more names!

Yes, Five Nations has common and popular names for people from those countries. Also, IIRC, the main Eberron Campaign Setting book also has suggested names, at least for the non-human races.

Just call him The Caped Crusader. ;)

[FR]Player wants to play a Bard/Ninja :), what do you think?

Reminds me of the Blade kit in the 2E Bard Handbook. I see no problem with it as you described the background. We once had a FR campaign set in Halruaa in which the PCs were members of a traveling band of entertainers. Some were bards. One of the NPCs was a ninja from Kara Tur whose clan had...
