    D&D 5E (2014) Lvl 14 rogue vs. (lvl 14) red dragon

Is it amusing to anyone else that a non-magical piece of leather, firing non-magical pebbles, nearly killed an adult dragon in three rounds? That it dealt 2/5ths of the dragon's total hit points in the first round? That, on average, it dealt about 2/9ths of the total hit points of an adult...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell Preparation - A Better Vancian or a Bridge Too Far?

I am traditionally a Wizard. The vast majority of my characters have been Wizards, and (to put it very succinctly) I love Wizards. I've been playing them since AD&D. They're my favorite. I have no interest in playing a Wizard with the current playtest. On one hand, it is a lot more like...

    XP

Personally, I've been trying to find my reputation/xp page for about an hour now. I logged in for the first time in a few weeks to find XP waiting for me (and a host of other changes), but cannot seem to find which post (can't see my own recent posts), which thread (can't see my recent threads)...

    Looking for 'Knight' like PrC

He doesn't have to use a mount to use that class's abilities.

Rovena With toxic saliva, I imagine you could EITHER spit or bite and still effect the target. Either way, your toxin seems like it is always in effect, and is a natural product of your body (like saliva is to humans). I don't think you can turn it off.

Dad's memories, "What is that adventure?"

My dad taught me, early on, to keep a pool of your characters that are "between adventures" of various levels, so if one of your 4th level characters dies in this adventure, you can bring in another 4th level character that you're familiar with. He didn't like the idea of making characters...

Dad's memories, "What is that adventure?"

the Jester I started gaming in AD&D, so I'm fairly well familiar with the difference in general lethality. I used to come to sessions prepared with four or five different level 1 characters, because I knew I'd likely at least lose one or two.

    Looking for 'Knight' like PrC

As a Knight, he should be well versed in mounted combat and chivalry. For these reasons, Purple Dragon Knight is one of my favorite Knight PrCs. BARRING mounted combat entirely, I think (as Grogg of the North so perfectly explained) that the Knight Protector is also a fantastic choice.

I'm not familiar with the Poisonous Spit variety of Acidic Saliva. I thought that Acidic Saliva required you to Bite your opponent. Please reference the text you have available. Candidly speaking, most natural attacks with a poison or acidic component are always active, and require no...

Dad's memories, "What is that adventure?"

My father believes this is the path he took. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions, guys! I'll be sure to come back and post how it goes, when it happens.

Dad's memories, "What is that adventure?"

So, my father is an old school BECMI > AD&D > 2e nerd. I was talking to him on the phone tonight, and he mentioned his favorite adventure from back in the day was the Against the Giants -> Queen of the Demonweb Pits supermodule. He recalls, however, a series that lead into Against the Giants...

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

Some Psionics, which (using magic/psionics transparency) can take benefit from the existing feat, allow just that to happen. I like this new iteration quite a bit better than previous. I still believe it needs a prerequisite of "levels in a high BAB class", to offset how amazing it it for...

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

Sure, but let's consider the following; BAB (being a consistent mechanic) grants only additional attacks during a full attack action. Caster Level can change spells entire effects, can mean the difference between life and death of an entire party (or city), extend ranges and durations and DCs so...

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

Although, it would allow Moderate BAB classes to get four attacks. Perhaps add a Prerequisite "Must have at least four levels in any class (singular or combined among all class levels) with a high BAB"?

Feat similar to Practiced Spellcaster, but for BAB?

What an interesting idea. I've yet to see one, though. Most builds that rely on high BAB just stick to high BAB classes.

    Making combat deadlier.

What are some ways to make combat a more deadly affair? I'm trying to bring my next campaign into the modern world, so you can bet there will be firearms and explosives of some kind. How do I really distinguish how much more deadly these weapons are than in previous editions, where pistols and...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Modern D&D

DEFCON 1 I have, indeed. I wanted to use the system that my group was familiar with, without having to shock them by pulling out unfamiliar source books. However, just the classes and ideas presented are definitely something I'm going to look at, now that you mention.

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Modern D&D

Just had a pretty good idea for another base class, a Survivalist. He'd be the modern-day Ranger, finding food and shelter in harsh environments (which there will be a lot of). His PrCs could include a Mountain Man/seclusionist idea, or a Wildlife/Forest Reservist. He could even have a small...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Modern D&D

For my next campaign, I want to the setting to be on Earth in 2012. I was going to start it in subsaharan Africa, and let them move from place to place on the planet. My main concern is coming up with classes and ideas that work in a modern setting. I'll need a group of base classes, with a...
