Ethical DM Dilemma in Shackled City - Spoiler

I absolutely agree with your decision (and reasoning) for wanting to change the identity of the villain. Level 13, and no one has seen through that illusion? Something is definitely not right with that scenario. The rakshasa idea is fantastic.

    Pathfinder 1E Succubus Vampire

The Vampire template can be applied only to humanoids and monstrous humanoids, and a Succubus is neither, so that idea is out the window. Of course, Wizards did introduce a Succubus Paladin at one point.

Pathfinder 1E Probably a silly question but

"+1 To Existing Spellcasting Class" increases your effective class level for determining how many spells you know, what level of spells you can cast, the number of spells you can cast per day, and your caster level.

Cool things that players do for their GMs?

Most of my players just bring snacks or alcohol for me, since I'm the one that usually provides for the group (seeing that I'm the only one who drinks). With players how they are, which DM doesn't? One of my players is constantly coming up with ideas of what he'd like his characters to do down...

    D&D 5E (2014) Exploration Rules You'd Like To See

If your Thief makes his check right on the number, the DM should be fluffing that to suit. Pits - He wobbles his way across the pit, falling several times but catching himself just as he tips over his makeshift tight rope. Guards - The Thief stumbles, his dagger clatters to the floor. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Level-Up Rewards

Two weapon/off-hand fighting and natural attacks are supposed to be how you acquire additional attacks, not arbitrarily throughout the leveling process. Eliminating the additional attacks on your table is the only way the aforementioned can be interesting or useful.

    D&D 5E (2014) Isn't "Disciplined" Useless?

If two identical Hobgoblins are trying to use Disciplined to their advantage, then you're correct in saying that it would be mathematically inferior to just attacking normally. If a Hobgoblin is using Discipline to grant advantage to a Hobgoblin Leader against an opponent with a high AC...

    A Treasonous Hawk

Dozen Consider those artifacts and phylacteries being held on by the individual adventurer, rather than the plot specific NPC. Adventurers face danger many times throughout the day, where plot specific NPCs only face danger once (when they're designed to fight the PC). Artifacts and...

    A Treasonous Hawk

Dozen The one where the hawk isn't in imminent danger throughout every day, where spells, arrows, axes, and giant clubs aren't the norm.

    A Treasonous Hawk

Neonchameleon Curious predators often put themselves in situations where they don't see a potential danger, rather than choosing to ignore it. Birds especially.

    A Treasonous Hawk

Leave your hawk at home. If you're just wanting to get rid of the hawk so you don't have to worry about the potential loss of EXP, then you won't be getting a new familiar anyway. No reason not to just leave him at home.

D&D 5E (2014) Flat math ability scores vs roleplay considerations

Post 18 scores in any attribute are reserved for the most prime specimens of that ability, invariably moving toward monsters and demigods as examples, especially in the Strength and Dexterity attributes. A man's strength score could be improved to 22-24 quite readily, with only a few years of...

How roleplay the use of bluff skill - delivering a secret message?

Your official says, "I would never accept a bribe". Using the Bluff skill, his tone goes from stern and dour to sarcastic, veiled, or humorous. He extends his hand in a "pay me" gesture as he says "bribe". Some people get that the tone or gesture mean he is just lying, some people accept his...

Don't forget the Disciple of Dispater PrC from Book of Vile Darkness. Triple threat range, stacks with Imp. Crit (for 4x threat range) when using any Iron or Steel weapon.

Ideas for starting a new group of gamers together

Caravan you were in is struck by lightning during a large storm. Desert travel impeded by sandstorm. Imprisoned by a large town, you and your cellmates must escape or be executed. After a goblin raid, the militia is recruiting to strike back and return their stolen goods. My personal favorite...

    Caring for your books

On my original AD&D and 2E books, the damage is quite clear. Coffee stains, sticky pages, the back cover of my Deities and Demigods is completely gone, my Monster Manual is missing it's index page, etc. My father shipped them around in a sea bag, he used them with a party of 5 to 10 year old...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Ghaele PC - Questions

Excellent points by Rumbletiger. The Ghaele's Alternate Form is mechanically different to standard Alternate Forms - It is reasonable to assume they are always simultaneously in both forms, and therefor able to carry equipment viable for either form with them when they travel. Any DM could...

    Thoughts on Damage Reduction...

I tend to agree with Dandu. If a caster (especially a Wizard) is dedicating himself to throwing fireballs with whimsy, he's already choosing to nerf himself; no need to do it further. If you'd like to go down that road, you should consider making EX damage reduction remain useless against...

    Unhappy with new forum setup.

I'm all fine for adding Pathfinder to D&D Legacy (hell, it came out before current edition), but the rush of D&D Next is disorienting and borderline spam on a forum that was once about previous editions. Please reseparate D&D Next from Legacy forums.
