"Red Box" Developer Frank Mentzer To Produce Empyrea Setting For D&D

This is wonderful! I own a copy the original Red Box - a whole BECMI collection actually - and I'm loving 5E, so this is awesome on many levels! :-)

D&D 5E (2014) What Races (classes) do you allow or disallow in your campaign?

Despite the repetition I like these threads on DM game management ideas and strategies regarding races and classes. Plenty of good stuff. :) So for me I employ one of 2 approaches: 1) For casual adhoc games anything goes! All options are on the table. While the campaigns last just a few...

Unearthed Arcana June Unearthed Arcana: Druid Shepherd, Fighter Cavalier, and Paladin of Conquest

If they want to make the cavalier more interesting, they have to show how its flavour and abilities are transferable to riding everything, not just horses, e.g. elephants, dragons, flying carpets, rafts bucking on a river, sitting on the shoulders of a giant, etc., whatever is plausible in a...

CURSE OF STRAHD Is Out Today (In Some Stores)

I looked over a copy in my FLGS but need to wait: payday is next week, lol. Oh what a lovely, gothic, delightfully gloomy adventure. Looks grand enough to earn an Ennie Award! It will be my first adventure purchase for 5E after the Starter Set. My brief look at the book: For levels 1 to 10...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC 5e products, published or announced, as of end of 2015?

While I don't understand WotC's sparse business plan, I'm not going to kvetch too much about it. There is plenty of third party material one can buy, and homebrew ideas are perculating everywhere, and older edition conversions to 5E are offered/ongoing works, so I can't see anyone suffering...

Which D&D Settings Do You Play In?

Today it looks like Mystara has quite a following, just one vote behind Greyhawk (at the time of this post), with Greyhawk third after FR. Not sure of the significance, but I'm happy to see it :)

For those who don't generally like to use Campaign Settings, what's your favorite one?

I'm with you. I always found myself becoming immersed in the maps, regions, and cultural backgrounds -- and potential adventures! The colourful hex maps may seem unrealistic, but somehow they always drew me in. Second was the early years of Forgotten Realms, pre-3E. And third for me is a tie...

    O.G.R.E: Online Generic Randomizer Engine

I just encountered O.G.R.E. today! WOW!!! I had no idea this existed. Fantastic!! I usually spend my time here at ENWorld looking at the home brew forums for 5E and PF and rarely look elsewhere on the site, so while I've seen tiny snippets of OGRE written here and there, without...

    AD&D 2E 2e Complete Books Conversions

Stealing Mechanics from Other Systems for 5e

I'm liking the notion that Inspiration could be tweaked: to have one point per player and one for the DM a the start of a game session, and then each time a player uses one the DM gains a point to use. So the more the players push their luck, the more the DM can twist outcomes. It would have...

    Race Classes:Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Gnome

Well, SD, as a DM who cut my teeth on BECMI, I thank you for the time and effort you put into this. I still have nostalgic notions about the Known World/Mystara setting -- I still own copies of all the Gazetteers :) -- so as I consider running a 5E Mystara campaign, you've provided some...

Lots and Lots of Spells Converted to 5e

Wow! Well done! I recognize some of them right away :-) That must have been a lot of work!! Thank you for sharing; I have downloaded a copy... feedback to come after I've taken some the converted spells for a ride (i.e. let my players use some, lol) :-)

    Implementing strict race selection.

I am a big fan of restrictions on races and classes available - if the restrictions make sense relative to the campaign setting. Using the particulars of a setting (e.g. ecological, historical, mythological, and/or cultural considerations) as a basis for some limits can cast a strong and...

what are the xp awards for (on this enworld forum ) ?

The FAQ has a section that explains 1xp = 1 GP, but when I try to redeem xps for gold, the site doesn't show me/allow me to do it. (I was hoping to redeem 15 of my 21 xps to get the Mystara badge.) Does the xp to gold feature on the site work? Or am I failing my perception roll?

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warlord?

Lemon Curry. Generally I am open to a few more classes added to the game, as optional classes in lieu of multiclassing. That said, I think in the case of the Warlord, the Battlemaster martial archetype for the Fighter - with some further options added - would probably do for me. If the...

D&D 5E (2014) What would a current "Knight" class look like?

Hmmm... the Knight as a non-casting Paladin subclass... Oath of Fealty! :D

D&D 5E (2014) What would a current "Knight" class look like?

Bingo! In reading this thread I was starting to think the same thing. Perhaps the Knight/Cavalier as subclass of Warlord? (The warlord doesn't seem to automatically assume skill or role as cavalry, but knights are almost always cavalry of some kind.)

Character Narratives Preview from PRIMEVAL THULE

I am quite intrigued by this project. Love the concepts and how it is coming together! Thanks, Rich Baker, for taking the time to post replies to our concerns/questions :) Is there a map somewhere that shows the general layout of the lands in the settling? (As an ex-Montrealer myself...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

I couldn't read every post here, but doesn't the Marshall from the 3.5E Miniatures Handbook offer good ideas? The Marshall has minor and major aura effects (typically boosts to certain rolls, boosts to AC, boosts to saves, DR at higher levels). The class also grants an extra move to allies, 1...

Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide: The First Official D&D 5E Setting

Colour me mildly surprised. I'm looking forward to seeing the product at my FLGS :) I'm not a huge fan of Forgotten Realms, but I can work with this...
