    Worlds of Design: Besieged!

I wish I had the article or could remember the issue because that concept is so strange and interesting to me. I do wonder if it predated the Terminator and the flesh restriction they had. I assume the concept is similar to asking why in comics or the MCU, Vision doesn't just phase through...

    Worlds of Design: Besieged!

There was an interesting concept I read in Dragon decades ago. The idea was that living material blocked teleportation or ethereal/astral travel, so cities covered buildings with ivy and living plants to block those ways of entrance.

    D&D 5E (2024) Another D&D 2024 Monster Preview: The Kuo-Toa!

I'm reminded of a joke from Critical Role's campaign 2, I believe the first episode, Nott says to Caleb not to move, because tieflings can only track movement, and Jester (a tiefling) agrees.

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

Agreed. But my favorite thing with DS was definitely the material used to make weapons and armor - like, omfg, a metal sword! I'm a god now!

    Gen Con Sold Out!

I always wonder if I have one more Gencon left in me. I used to go when it was in Milwaukee, but I had a group to go with. Now, I'm an older single dad with only one kid who's borderline interested in gaming. Feels like too much of an investment in time and resources for too little reward for...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Beyond Article on Crafting

In a 3e game, I played a cleric that was centered around arming and armoring the astral deva. That was when I learned that while the to-hit/damage bonuses could only go up to +5, you could put a total of +10 worth of features on a weapon. Same with rings.

    D&D 5E (2014) Greyhawk: Pitching the Reboot

Well, they DID attempt a VtM series on Fox, when Fox was still a young channel. However, they also managed to mangled the vampire clans. For a long while, that was as attempted-mainstream as you could get - Vampire 90210

    Transformers One 2024

I always love the story about how, due to the mass trauma inflicted on children at Optimus Prime's death, it made them rewrite GI Joe so that Duke survives thanks to a throwaway ADR line.

D&D General Could a real human survive your D&D adventures?

I think it all depends. Normal humans moved to a fantasy world would have adaption issues any way, but I feel the 'adventures' a person with disabilities would undertake, like anyone else, would be those that play to their strengths. Kind of like Tyrion Lannister - partly he was relegated to...

    D&D General Player-generated fiction in D&D

It's been my experience there's a difference in the two examples just in play, but it may be hard to quite articulate it. Skill challenges, I believe, are more narrative in the lines of '8 successes before 4 failures.' So, I don't see a disconnect of a player who's TRYING to find a way to...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

I snipped the part because I wasn't addressing that and wanted to avoid a wall of text, I still haven't seen your point of them not supporting DMs, if 2014 books are still on the table. And certainly, they are not coming into your home to audit your gameplay. I don't know you or how you...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Jeremy Crawford Interviews

I don't know that that's throwing the GM under the bus to say 'ask your GM if you can'. There are absolutely setting or scenarios where a certain PC type is not baseline appropriate for. It's no different than coming to a table where the pre-established worldbuilding is 'Elves all left for...

Critical Role Is Critical Role Scripted

Agreed. I'm blanking on the name of the guy who makes the minis on Dimension 20, but Brennan Lee Mulligan busted out a bear corpse as a battle map one time and that was fire. -- Note: I was wrong; they made it for the game Aabria ran https://youtube.com/shorts/-i3aO2Y2K0c?si=UFaJzHUTyDj81Li2

Critical Role Is Critical Role Scripted

I think having actors play makes the 'staying in character' much easier. I do wonder how much production team help he gets for the battlefields. They've released shorts that are sped up versions of Matt working on the terrain for the next encounter, but the room and tools he has available to...

OSR What's the best introductory BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs?

The basement room with rats comment made me think of a streamer I watch playing Oblivion. He assumed it would be the same quest - woman wants the rats killed. No. The woman wants to keep the rats, but a mountain lion was sneaking in and killing the rats. Come to find out, the lady's neighbor...

RPG Evolution: Teaching D&D to Scouts … Again

I'll agree to bloated. I feel like part of the problem is they seem to be designing to everyone: on one hand, it's generally way easier than when I started in Basic and AD&D 1e, but... they also bake-in so many things to try to give guidelines for things veterans will want to do.

    D&D 4E Disguising 4e as 5e/5.5e

100%. I believe it's also good to look at the table dynamic and why everyone's getting together. Some tables are there strictly for the game, and only this One System. Some don't care what, if anything, is being run as long as they are hanging out - they'd hang out even if it was board game...
