Which game has your favorite magic system?

Reminds me of Hucksters in Deadlands, where they use cards to cast their spells since.... Hoyle's Book of Games is a disguised paranormal tome

Which game has your favorite magic system?

Ars Magica. Magic is basically (verb) (noun): Create fire, destroy life. The fact you can gain XP for having your character take time to write research papers like some grad student is also very cool.

D&D General What is player agency to you?

I believe this is an issue comics have in a lot of ways. There are events that cannot be changed generally - the Waynes will always leave Bruce an orphan, Uncle Ben will die and give Peter Parker guilt, etc - but what they are running into are things where... Marvel used to have a policy where...

D&D General What is player agency to you?

While I agree generally with what you're saying, I don't know that this exactly is what the original post was talking about. Some of the early issues brought up were about note-taking for example or other non-immersive behaviors. Do you want your inhabiting Gonad the Barbarian to be judged by...

D&D General What is player agency to you?

D&D General What is player agency to you?

This reminds me of a GM I played with many decades ago. He was part of the friend group, which is probably why people humored him as long as they did in games. First, he was the GM type who should just sit and write the Great American Novel, for all the railroading he wants to do. Even down...

D&D General What is player agency to you?

Right here feels like a reason games grind to halts. It's okay to have that gaming style, but not every player wants to play this way. You are not opposition. You are the world. I agree a problem is players who don't take notes or want to just coast, but by the same time, I have been at...

Pathfinder 2E Confession: I Want to Run PF2 But I Don't Want to Learn It

I'm a big fan of beginner boxes if they're done well. My most recent 'beginner campaign' was the Fall of Tinath for Traveller. It did a really good job of, section by section, adding new systems to learn. We explored ziggarauts, we fought battles, we were forced to go on a PR campaign as the...

I think we may have come close to seeing this once in C2 :geek:

Take World War II To Your RPG Night With War Stories

I wonder what timeline Free League will use. I know it's probably standard to expect it to start a D-Day/American intervention timeline, but I suspect the timeline will be backed up to May 1940 with the invasion of France. Partly, since Free League is Swedish, Europe probably has a bit of a...

D&D 5E (2024) Is there any confusion between Poison Damage and the Poisoned Condition?

I think poison damage and Poisoned could use a name change. I think the mistake may come if a player or DM doesn't understand that just because someone takes poison damage, it doesn't nessecarily mean that they get the Poisoned condition.

RPG Evolution: The Sea Peoples Campaign

This reminds me of the summer some friends and I spent - every night - playing the original Civilization game. I can't remember if Avalon Hill made it - it was faded and ancient when we played this, say in '95. Beer every night, trying to beat the game. There was no way to win by military -...

Waffles vs. Pancakes vs. French toast: Which is best?

I went back to get a nice picture of the breakfast tacos, and discovered they also have buttermilk fried lobter tail for breakfast.

Waffles vs. Pancakes vs. French toast: Which is best?

I'm a heathen. Just the other day, at Cracker Barrel having breakfast for dinner. Pancakes, fried eggs, bacon. Every single thing gets maple syrup. Always. A godless heathen, like my father before me.

Waffles vs. Pancakes vs. French toast: Which is best?

D&D General Forest Based Campaign: resources and tips

I would give the forest defenders the ability to ignore natural difficult terrain. I would also make the invaders PRIORITIZE destroying said terrain during their invasion.

    How Do I Escape D&D?

Cons can introduce you to whole new kinds of games and gaming. I haven't been to Gencon since it left Milwaukee, but I have fond memories of everyone and their brother seeming to want to hock some new system or book and being super stoked about it. Let alone some of the strange games you can...

    How Do I Escape D&D?

I think often with one-shots, the GM is also new to the game. I think we all forget how it was to DM D&D when we first started playing. Maybe another option, if your group is agreeable, is to run a two- or three-episode miniseries. It may take a session or two to really find some of the cool...
