D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

That, as stated, is far worse than Guidance, which can be used repeatedly and gives 1d4 with no downside. Advantage is not always +5, although it is quite a bit. Yours is very limited.

D&D 5E (2014) I thought about summoning spells too hard

Maybe it's a job. Like you are in the elemental pool and you get paid for sitting around on call then occasionally get pulled into battle or other tasks. I imagine it pays pretty good. Risk pay even.

    D&D 5E (2014) Drawmij's Instant Summons: Am I Missing Something?

that's a pretty good use. Particularly when combined with Demiplane - now you have a 30' room to put your clone and all your gems, backup spellbooks, etc into. Probably even keep a scroll of plane shift in there to conveniently leave to a teleportation circle you know of. No one else is really...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

Hrm... disguise self + friends might be handy, particularly if you are a level 6+ illusionist. Friends in one disguise, walk away, change the disguise - they are hostile to something that no longer exists. Same with Alter Self - higher level spell slot and concentration, but no illusion spec...

Denizens of the North - art

So, I had to create a thread for the art of this. The kickstarter is over, but soon to be published. I'm just really impressed with it that much. A lot of folks who have Fate of the Norns: Ragnarok talk about the art, which you can find a lot of via a simple google search. However, the art...

    D&D 5E (2014) playtest 18th level PC vs town...lFqW reborn... or not

Summons do. I'm sorry this is turning into a pain for you. Definitely not my intention. I actually found the practice of your wizard to be quite enlightening.

    D&D 5E (2014) playtest 18th level PC vs town...lFqW reborn... or not

Right, I've been referencing your one on the front page. My preference would be less fire (drop DBF, it is only better than fireball after a big delay really) and less rays (drop FoD, it hits con, high level stuff tends to have high con, single target), and probably drop lightning bolt (decent...

    D&D 5E (2014) playtest 18th level PC vs town...lFqW reborn... or not

I think you might characterize it harshly. I think the test was probably just fine, but I think it did more than enough to illustrate that a town is a match for high level characters. I doubt that careful spell select would have made a HUGE difference in the outcome - things like fly can be...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

It's the spell you take as a 10th level Enchanter in anticipation of level 14. At that point, you will have single target advantage on charisma checks all the time and alter memories.

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

It gets much worse as you go up in levels, because many big monsters end up being very high in Con. Acid Spray, shockingly enough, works quite well on most dragons and many of the large, lumbering monsters. Agree on all fronts here, including mage hand. I have been looking at Mage Hand for my...

    D&D 5E (2014) playtest 18th level PC vs town...lFqW reborn... or not

Right, I think that is some of what I was getting at. That and you have spell slots and spells memorized and that tends to promote you having a broader range of spells memorized. For example, you might have bread and butter damage at no cost long term defense short term defense single target...

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG Preview: POISONS!

I gotta disagree on the blind/paralyze/incapacitated/unconscious ones. Paralyze is a hold monster, here, unconscious is a sleep with no HP max, blind is a very strong condition itself, and incapacitated really just lets you murder them with a rusty butter knife. Almost all of those ones are...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

This would not likely happen at my table either. The players would save the wizard, and I, as DM, would probably have someone with ranged weapons attacking the wizard. It is extremely rare for me to have a lack of ranged capability, even if ranged means "extremely high mobility and a melee weapon"

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

ray of frost at 60', move 30 for both you and the target ray - you move 30, distance between you is 90 opponent dashes, moves 40 (20x2) distance is now 50 ray - you move 30, distance is 80 dash - distance is now 40 ray - you move 30, distance is 70 dash - distance is 30 ray - you move 30...

    D&D 5E (2014) playtest 18th level PC vs town...lFqW reborn... or not

To the OP: how do you think this would have gone with the wizard in more of a controller style? Things like hypnotic pattern to make more use of the other party members for the raw damage and have the wizard control the flow? I ask not so much because I question your methods, but rather to...

D&D 5E (2014) Wizard Cantrips: Which are the best early on?

Minor illusion is really excellent. It takes some creativity and I would discuss the parameters with your DM outside of game time and don't step out of them while in game. I have actually gotten solid use out of message and mending, believe it or not. Not every fight, but I've managed to find...

    D&D 5E (2014) Drawmij's Instant Summons: Am I Missing Something?

you know, outside of the holding hitch, multiple casters could cast DIS the same thing, each with their own gem attuned to it. might be something useful there.

    D&D 5E (2014) Agility-based katana wielder: is it possible?

Ok, this is an interesting idea. What you are proposing effectively is a weapon property that is similar to versatile, only instead of stepping up the weapon die, you get +2 AC. Now, if we say that it doesn't actually count as a shield, and thus does not gain the benefits from shield feats, but...
