    Advantage

I like Advantage, as a name. It's simple, clear, obvious, and more importantly, only one word. I mean, let's take for example a new player, let's call him Billy. Billy never played a roleplaying game before, but he's not shy and is getting pretty creative in his tactics. You tell him "Okay...

Spoilers: Some guy in Friends & Family playtest apparently violates his NDA

Anybody else is in love with "Advantage" as a simple +2 to whatever, in any circumstance? I mean, 3.X and 4E essentially had that (Favorable circumstances/Combat advantage/aid another/flanking, etc.), but I would find it beautiful to see a generic "Advantage", sneaking its way pretty much...

Spoilers: Some guy in Friends & Family playtest apparently violates his NDA

The numbers were nice and low, the thief looked like he had cool abilities, it seems possible to make a gish out of the box, the same encounter can be used at levels 2, 5 and 10... For me, this all sounds like what we were told was coming. I'm on board.

What would you rather see: core rulebook or traditional trilogy?

I vote boxes. I love boxed sets.

    Does Size Matter?

I agree with the other posters. Size is important in a tactical module, where you need to know how many squares a given monster occupies. Otherwise, I'm cool with separating monsters as "Sort of size of a PC" and "Big".

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - The Fighter

In my opinion, a fighter is Conan. Read the Conan stories and comics. That's what I want to see a fighter do. The fighter is resourceful and clever. He's a predator on the battlefield. Outside of combat, he's probably a broken individual seeing the world as a new battle every day. The fighter...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Blog - The Fighter

In my world, the fighter is the guy who can kill you with anything with or without a pointy end. A sword, a spear, a mace, a bow, a chair.

    Monte Cook - Pros

I voted 2. Although it is important to have some input by the designers (not all of us have what it takes to build a game from scratch), roleplaying games are fundamentally about the gaming group. A game should try to encompass a vague group of "feels" to be adapted however a given group wants...

What themes do you want in core?

    They did mention pubcrawler somewhere...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next the return of prestige classes?

What if themes are the low level equivalent for paragon path/epic destinies? I thought paragon paths et al were a cool concept, really. So what if, every tier, you got to choose a new thingy? Say, I'm a dwarven pubcrawler paladin at level one (let's call this adventurer tier), at level 5...

D&D 5E (2014) What Is The Proper Order Of Attributes For D&D Next?

Charisma Constitution Dexterity Intelligence Strength Wisdom. Alphabetical is the best way!

Is anybody else seeing C&C here?

I was reading over the Skill and Ability Score Seminar and most of the mechanical aspects of reworked skills and abilities screamed Castles & Crusades to me. To those not familiar with the retro-clone, all saves are based on abilities, that are either Primed (things that you are good at) or...

    DDXP Begins Today!

Nah, man, it's modular, people can bring Mountain Dew to the table, if they want to, but they can also bring Dr. Pepper, or even both! We live in a wonderful age!

How Many 1st Level Fighters Should a 10th Level Fighter Beat?

I say 512. You need 2 first level characters to beat 1 second level character. You need 2 second level characters to beat 1 third level character. You need 2 third level characters to beat 1 fourth level character. You need 2 fourth level characters to beat 1 fifth level character. and so on...

    How about translations ?

Well, I would be happy with an OGL allow fans of the translation business to create a set of alternate language SRDs. There is a French srd for Pathfinder and it's not bad at all. It would be cool if the fans were allowed to do that themselves, and thus let the community grow.

    How about translations ?

Well, I should be graduating with a bachelor's in Translation (from English to French) at about the time of the release of fifth edition... That being said, the chances of me getting such a contract is pretty slim, but hey, a guy can dream.

A chance to cover new ground

I am completely enamored with the game, it's a very sleek, and very very flavourful version of oD&D, one of the nicest encumbrance system I've seen since C&C (I rarely care about encumbrance). It's very much influenced by Lovecraft and co., very much weird fantasy. Also has my favorite fighter...

A chance to cover new ground

I believe myself an open minded one. Skill challenges were a good idea (and could easily be switched for ability checks and such) My point is that there are a million ways to run these things, and in my opinion, they belong on blogs, or small ebooks or magazines and such. Well, if it happens...

A chance to cover new ground

As an old-school DM, I'm against all of the above. Every single one of these could be advocated on the fly by a clever DM, thus, there's no real reason for absolute rules. I mean, a chase could be a single opposed check, a series of skill check from the PC (whichever side he's on) or a skill...
