D&D 4E What are you planning for your first 4E character?

Since I haven't gotten to play a dwarf in anything more than a one-shot game since 3.0 came out, I think I'll choose one for my first 4E character. Probably a defender (Fighter or Paladin) with a high CON and tons of HP. With healing surges based on your total HP, it sounds like a good thing...

    It's No Longer A Joke

Yeah, that's kind of the point of my post. You used to be able to laugh at those people, because they were claiming to 'win' an open-ended game. Now, there is an ending built into the rules.

    It's No Longer A Joke

True. However, that's something decided by the gamemaster, and the character could always be brought back in a future game. In this case, the rules state that when you complete a specific in-game task, you're done.

    It's No Longer A Joke

From the Epic Destinies article: Yes, that's correct. As of the release of 4E, it will actually be possible to win D&D...

    GSL FAQ up

So, can Necromancer Games create a 4E monster book called "Fiend Folder" or somesuch that does exactly what ToH did for 3E, but call it a separate product line (since it's a monster sourcebook with a different name)? What if 99% of the monsters are the same ones in the ToH? What if it's only 50%?

Gary Gygax has passed. RIP beloved father of RPG's. (merged)

There are so many things I could say, but really, why not let Gary have the last word? http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/538/538820p3.html

D&D 4E Rename the races in 4E? Why halflings and not hobbits? Dwur not dwarf...

    Well, you could always call halflings by their other D&D name... . . . . . . ...kender. :)

My Wife is in TV Guide - Who Wants To Be A Superhero 2

By the way, Mistwell, the obvious question to ask the gamer with the famous superhero wife is... ...do you have game stats for Hygena? :)

September - What are you Watching?

I'm just trying to clear out my TiVo before all the new sci-fi shows premiere later this month. To think that a few years ago I was lamenting the lack of sci-fi on TV...

My Wife is in TV Guide - Who Wants To Be A Superhero 2

The Defuser is actually a pretty good guy - and has gamed for the past 25 years. He currently plays City of Heroes, and one of the reasons you saw him hugging Mindset near the end of the show is that Mindset also plays CoH, and they were glad that one of them won. The donut he flies through in...

Arcanis or Scarred Lands - Help me decide

Both are good settings, though Scarred Lands was a bit hit or miss with their books. I also wasn't impressed with the one god per alignment setup, which felt too artificial. That said, Hollowfaust is still one of my favorite gaming supplements. The creator of Arcanis, Henry Lopez, puts story...

    Edition Defining Adventures

1E: Tomb of Horrors is THE adventure that defines 1E, though White Plume Mountain and Temple of Elemental Evil are also strong contenders (who hasn't heard of Wave, Whelm, and Blackrazor?). Also, while you may not recognize all the key NPCs, anyone hearing the boxed text would instantly...

My Wife is in TV Guide - Who Wants To Be A Superhero 2

I find it interesting reading different message boards about the show. Here, people seem to 'get' what Stan is looking for. Ironically, people don't get it as well over on the City of Heroes message boards - you'd think people would really grasp the essence of a superhero there... Anyway...

[SWSE] Are Jedi just plain better than everyone else?

Luke fights a bunch of mooks, for the most part. He does manage to sunder Boba Fett's blaster, but only after spending a round escaping from being entangled. Han is the one to take out Boba Fett - while blinded. R2 is the only reason Luke got a chance to shine, and freed Leia (not to mention...

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

My understanding is that you are correct. Which leads to my earlier question - how much damage does a 30-point Insightful Strike do on a critical hit? Because Insightful Strike replaces normal weapon damage, rather than becoming extra damage.

Tome of Battle: Book of 9 Swords - Things to watch out for?

Quick question for the experts while everyone is talking about Bo9S - how do crits interact with maneuver damage? My understanding is that bonus damage from a maneuver is not affected by criticals, so you can't multiply the +100 damage from the Strike of Perfect Clarity by the crit multiplier...

    Summoning creatures with healing?

Eberron is perhaps the most flexible setting for arcane healing. Repair spells in a party of warforged is the best method. There is also the Silver Pyromancer (from Five Nations) who adds the paladin spell list to his class spells - that means a sorcerer can choose to take things like cure...
