    Build Me a Minotaur

Wouldn't it be simpler to make those two small adjustments to the Fighter class, rather than using the Warrior class ?

    Is it Munchkin?

It will depend on the rest of the groups point of view. As for potential munchkiness choose among the following. a) the whole trip maneuver thing has been powered way up in 3,5ed and can lead to domination of battles vs. foes of your own or smaller size b) the spiked chain is a stupid and...

The Doomed Bastards: Reckoning (story complete)

Just found this yesterday and is now up to date. You asked earlier about readers who have read all three stories, I'm one. How do they compare: I actually find this one to be the best so far. Due to the fact that you have taken what I would normally consider to be a rather boring dungeon hack...

Lions vs. 10th level party..results of low magic encounter

If you thought that encounter went badly just wait until they encounter giants, dragons or any other large/huge monster with great strength and good melee capabilities. They will get shredded to small pieces. In low/scarce magic games the DM (which would be you) must be very careful about...

    LA for Elementals?

Let’s look at what a medium earth elemental gets. • Str +10, Dex -2, Con +6, Int -6 • +9 natural armor • Slam attack for 1d8 damage • Earth mastery (+1 attack and damage in most situations) • Push (essentially a lesser version of Improved Bullrush) • Earth Glide (free movement through earth...

    Re-doing Cross-Class Skills

We have done this for years and it works out fine. The most popular cross-class skills seems to be the perceptive ones (listen, search, sense motive and spot) and various knowledge skills. Not really that surprising I guess. Anyway no one at our table have ever felt their niche threatened by...

How Broken Is It to Just Advance Characters Past 20th w/o Epic Rules?

I see no great problems by continuing advancing beyond 20th level with the standard rules. However I don't really see any point in doing so if your game (like mine) never really progress beyond 11-12th level. Any character (at least any spellcaster) of level 20+ should be able to overpower...

Second Son of a Second Son: The Stat Draft

A dangerous decision in any D&D game. And based on El-remmens current story hour maybe even more dangerous in his game :)

Second Son of a Second Son: The Stat Draft

There is quite a bit of difference between the best (sum of 86 and +11 modifier) and worst stats (sum of 78 and +8 total modifier) here. Thats a measureable difference when playing. Intended or did it just happen? Interestingly the highest stat total went to the Fighter/Diviner, arguebly...

    Was I unfair?

I think you need to think long and hard about possible rules changes if you want a horror game. Standard D&D rules dont mesh well with horror, unless you keep it at low level. A player with a 150ish HP raging Half-orc barbarian with the strength to bull rush elephants is not often afraid or...

    A powergamer in a non-powergame.

I think that hit the nail right on the head. Your DM obviously don't care much about rules, but wants a cool story. Luckily and very importantly he is not going for a predetermined story, but allow gamers to influence the story. This is good. The trick that might work for you is to stop trying...

Level 10 Half Dragon Character Help

But by the numbers that is not slow at all. This world would be shock full of level 10+ fighters, wizards and rogue npc's in their early twenties who safely earned those levels by smithing, weaving, carpentry and so on. Makes absolute no sense. And as for feats. You dont need no stinking...

Level 10 Half Dragon Character Help

And in my opinion by first glance a bad one. If a person can reach level 10 by making swords for 4 years something is off. And how do you become a better fighter, wizard etc. by making swords? I used the standard craft rules (poor as they are) and the weekly work progress from them. And as I...

Level 10 Half Dragon Character Help

ehh.....what or rather why would you get that? If any smith gains 45 xp per short sword he produces an Expert (npc class) weaponsmith will reach 5th level in about 1,5 years, 10th level in 4 years and 20th level in roughly 10 years by doing nothing but hammering swords out.

Are zombies "smart" enough to take AoO's?

Actually I don't think I would let a Zombie take AOO since it is both mindless and slow*. But that is a point of view based entirely on how I conceive Zombies and not in any way by the actual rules. *For instance I would let the equally mindless Skeletons take AOO as they are quite fast in...

Level 10 Half Dragon Character Help

That sounds as a really bad idea, unless he is going to charge you further ECL for that size increase.

Level 10 Half Dragon Character Help

With those kinds of stats it doesn't matter much. Be sure to pick a class with full BAB to counteract the ECL, grab a greatsword, as much armor as possible and you'll be just fine. In fact unless the other fighting PC's in the group rolled the same kind of crazy stats, you will absolutely...

    Is this fair?

Ahh. And here we might be at the core of the situation. Have you considered whether this is a less than subtle (and frankly immature) hint that the DM and other players were less than pleased with the antics of your former insane undead riding character? Should they be serious about what...

    The Terrible Trio

I consider my job, as a DM, to include weeding such IMO broken combinations out by disallowing them. That goes both for PC's and NPC's. I see absolutely no reason to allow something that 99 out of 100 players would choose everytime due to its relative power. The end result can only be a...

    D&D 3.x Skillless and Featless 3.5 D&D or alternative to C&C

Personally I think it is a horrible idea and that you could achieve what you want much easier. Buy Castels and Crusades. That is as close as you get to 1ed with d20 rules. It might even be available as PDF files for less money, but I'm not sure about that.
