Useing Dexterity to hit --> everytime.

Try searching for threads on this subject, there has been plenty. Some of the arguments for using strength are 1. Game balance (dex becomes to important) 2. Swinging any object of even 3-4 pounds for a short stretch of time does not have to do with agility, it requires strength 3. As armor...

    JollyDoc's Age of Worms!

Why don't you rule it out then ? Why a piece of chain with hooks and weights should be THE weapon in D&D seems strange to begin with.

"Out of the Frying Pan"- Book IV - Into the Fire [STORY HOUR COMPLETED - 12/25/06]

No, I didn't read all of it, but some. And just to clarify, I'm not questioning the way the world is run. I quite agree that cultural aspects are often not nearly played up enough (in my latest games elves and dwarves alike have been potrayed with insufferable superior attitudes and raving...

"Out of the Frying Pan"- Book IV - Into the Fire [STORY HOUR COMPLETED - 12/25/06]

Do Rachtis player ever regret choosing to be half-orc? People in your world are so racist that it is a terrible disadvantage for him. In fact, if I as a DM had chosen to run the world like that (and I actually quite like it), I think I would have sweetened the deal by not penalizing half-orc...

Shackled City Epic: "Vengeance" (story concluded)

Well. It's been a very very long time since out heroes had anything that resembled a less than overwhelmingly deadly fight. So if this is one that they are prepared well for and wins with relative ease it would be nice. At least in my games I occasionally stage such fights, its nice for players...

An above all else group leader

We are doing this right now. Not with one player as the king, but with the other players in his service (or rather his fathers service). It has actually been great fun. Last time our leader ended up charmed, it took a long time for the rest of us to reason that out. He was leading us into a...

    Cloistered Cleric in Gestalt Games

If that is your goal I would go with the Cloistered cleric (drop the lore on order not to step on the bards toes) and define a narrower spell list tailored to each god and/or ethical standpoint (read alignment).

    D&D - Iron Heroes...between the poles

What is incredible powerful ? Do you think it means the same for you as for me ? That was the point of the (rude) post and thats why "low-powered" is a ambigous term. Not because it doesn't have meaning, but because it holds a different meaning to different people. Just like incredible...

    [Iron Heroes] Magic oddities.

What can be conjured is up to the whim of the DM (one of Montes key issues with D&D), I would look at CR as much as HD as the DM. ANd there would be no DRagon conjuring. All in all I think in Iron heroes the fighters are supposed to do the killing, magic is for accomplishing what fighting...

Iron Heroes - I have it in my hands!

All in all the Iron heroes way of dealing with npc and monster powers is pretty much what I do already in my standard D&D game. I'm sure I'm not the only Dm with this approach. You simply decide that strict rules are for the players exclusively(to keep them somewhat on par with each other)...

What are good spells for a Sorc to "chain"?

Or he will buy a cloak of charisma +6 and presto, no problems.

Power Attack alternate ruling. Would like opinions please.

It will make the problem even worse. Suddenly you will be able to PA to your hearts content against all opponents regardless of their AC. At least a normal barbarian would simply dump all he can in power attack and count on killing most things before they can even hit back. If I was playing...

    New Race: Gutterkin

Correct. I do not think they are overpowered.

    New Race: Gutterkin

I don't quite get that. A gutterkin fighter with power attack armed with say a longsword will do 1d6 points of damage. Compared with a medium creature he will be at +1 to hit. If he then power attacks for 1, he will do 2-7 damage compared to the medium fighters 1d8 (also armed with a...

    New Race: Gutterkin

I think they should have a -2 str penalty (that already makes them quite strong for small creatures who usually has a -4 str penalty). Otherwise they will be better fighters than many medium races. the smaller weapon size is more or less cancelled out by using power attack and taking advantage...

    Creating Personalities for PCs

My own experience is that a characters personality often isn't really set in the beginning of a campaign. I usually have some ideas and the actual stats factor in as well. But the most important influence is the game itself, Making tough choises in game builds the character.

"Out of the Frying Pan"- Book IV - Into the Fire [STORY HOUR COMPLETED - 12/25/06]

Because most most people don't really like being verbally abused all the time. I certainly would not hang around with a guy like that. Pay him his share and dumb him or give him the choise of behaving civily or leaving.
