    Climb, Jump, Swim...

Amazing how games can differ. Those skills have been used in just about every gaming session we have had. Characters jumping on top of tables, climbing houses or scaling cliffs, swimming due to toppled boats roaring rivers etc. Where do your adventures usually take place?

The problem with elves take 2: A severe condemnation [merged]

As little as possible. I prefer to spend my precious game planning time to actually plan the game, rather than obscure aspects of the game world that rarely come into play. If philosophic questions about elves should turn up in a game I would either pull answers out of my ass or acknowledge...

The problem with elves take 2: A severe condemnation [merged]

Yes I'll have to agree to disagree. I don't count on, look to, or even want to use rules books for fluff or ideas. My campaign and world ideas usually start out from litterature, movies and random idle thoughts. Once the campaing gets going the actual act of playing the game provides the...

The problem with elves take 2: A severe condemnation [merged]

Allow me to correct the above statement. Thus, elves are doom ... ... elves, in your imaginary game world, have a king sized headache And shouldn't we rather discuss how these hordes of orcs continually find the resources to breed into numberless hordes when they also traditionally must...

And most of us are consistently replying that this is your problem, not your solution.

The problem with elves take 2: A severe condemnation [merged]

Edena as several posters have already spotted and commented on you IMO wrongly assume that the D&D rules should apply to the world you game in. They should not. Those rules are only there to have a framework for the player characters abilities and can (and should) be ignored for most other...

The problem with elves take 2: A severe condemnation [merged]

I still don't get the point about these two posts at all Edena. You are (trying) to prove that your interpretation of elves in your games makes them inherently unplayable and even unable to survive as a race. So what? I have played in many games and elves have been potrayed and interpreted...

    How to end the world?

So the players saved the day even though you had originally decided that they had botched the chance of succes by driving the Godling away? If so, why the change of heart.

    Reimagining the Hobbit

Well to me the problem seems to be that the modifier doesnt guarantee that the penalty will make the stat go down. This naturally leads players to place an uneven score in both the stats that are modified. For a hafling you place that 11 in str (and then it is modified to a 10) and that 15 in...

    (My) Stats for a Sap?

No it is not unrealistic. But it doesn't jive well with the D&D concept of HP. And any mechanic that circumvents the HP buffer IS problematic. Be it an attack that forces a saving throw to avoid unconsciousness or extra damage in specific situations (which at the same time steps on the intended...

"Second Son of a Second Son" - An Aquerra Story Hour (*finally* Updated 04/19)

This is somewhat unrelated. I seem to remember that you based the noble families on the works of some web site with a presentation of the noble families from George RR Martins A game of thrones series. If that is correct could you guide me to that web site? Thx in advance

Dragon Bound (Disclaimer: 40 pages long, with subtle balance)

Ok. You want the class to be balanced and workable with other normal D&D classes. IMO (and as I read it that goes for the majority of repliers) your class as it stands isn't. It has several problems. 1. Too good at too many things (Full BAB, a very dangerous dragon companion and a great spell...

Dragon Bound (Disclaimer: 40 pages long, with subtle balance)

Except at low levels all you have to do with my suggestion is to use numbers already put in a table by the nice people who wrote the Monster Manual. I can make you a table of the low level stats if you want, that would take about 10 minutes. If anything this makes it easier to use IMO. The good...

Drop Trap Sense from the Barbarian in exchange for...?

Exchange it for the ability mentioned above and literacy. Thats plenty compensation for such a meager and situational ability.

Opinions needed: Several house rules in conjunction

To me this produces the counterintuitive situation that Lord Evil, the 14th level fighter, breaks/drops his sword three times as often (because he has 3 attacks per round) as Jim the 1st level commoner (who has one attack per round). Breaking/dropping your weapon on every 20 attacks also...

Dragon Bound (Disclaimer: 40 pages long, with subtle balance)

Thats what I figured. But you need to take a reality check. You say that you want your class to be balanced with other D&D classes. So far everyone here has basically said that it can't be done without some major depowering. If your response to serious attempts of balancing the class is "I...

Dragon Bound (Disclaimer: 40 pages long, with subtle balance)

Well, not to be harsh but. It wasn't meant as an alternative, but as a playable and hopefully balanced version of your class. There is just no way to have a dragon companion of any worth AND fighter attack progression. It can't be balanced IMO.

Dragon Bound (Disclaimer: 40 pages long, with subtle balance)

This may not be what you are looking for. But these are my tweaks, IMO they may make the class playable and possibly balanced. But I'm not even sure about the balance with this major nerf. I have tried to replace any homemade mechanics with tried and tested ones. Disclaimer: I have not in any...

    Damage for Metal Quarterstaff?

For an npc the staff will do damage as you, the dm, find appropiate. Thats a simple rule that makes game prepping that much easier.

    Eldritch Glaive: too good?

The real abuse would be a gestalt Fighter/Warlock with Eldritch Glaive. Ouch :)
