Games that wildly vary between groups

Monopoly was actually the first game I played with house rules. Free Parking - do you get the pot or not? Is there a pot? Can you buy your way out of jail? How much can you negotiate prices and trades? Can players make alliances and "shady deals" with each other? Etc, etc. My...

Best Five RPG Books You Own

Monkey is still a poor gamer, but the collection has grown a bit since I first posted in this thread. Monkey's Current Top Five Pathfinder RPG - Monkey still plays D&D 3.5 and D&D 4E but Pathfinder is edging them out as current favorite RPG. D&D Insider - Not a book, but a darn handy resource...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder in Space

Monkey would definately be interested. Already running a homebrew that uses Dragonstar and Spelljammer as inspiration (as well as Council of Wyrms and D20 Modern).

    What setting are you using?

Using Pathfinder RPG rules, but the setting is a mash-up of Dragonstar, Council of Wyrms, Spelljammer, and D20 Modern. Haven't even glanced at Golarion as of yet.

Wrath of the Immortals: what happens and why is it controversial?

Spoilers follow... I don't remember all the specifics, but amongst other things, a meteor crashes in to Darokin and Alphatia sinks (though it resurfaces, pun intended, in the Hollow World).

    Best Undersea Supplements?

Thanks for the recommendations! :D Besides the 2E "The Sea Devils" which of those sources has good info on Sahuagin? They are my primary antagonists (of course).

    Best Undersea Supplements?

Monkey is going to be running an undersea campaign very soon and is looking to round out some of the options and world and such. What are the better 3.0/3.5 era undersea oriented books? I already know of The Deep from Mystic Eye Games and Stormwrack from WotC. Are there any others?

Did your very first character die or level up?

I think this right here is what is skewing the results. I know I, for one, fudged die rolls fairly often as a DM introducing new players to the game to keep them alive. I'm sure it wasn't an uncommon practice. ;)

Did your very first character die or level up?

My first character was the fighter from the Mentzer basic set, who I named "Duke" because I was a G.I. Joe fan at the time. My step-brother ran several homebrew adventures and X1 and good old Duke made it to level 6, I believe, before I started DMing.

    Stargate RPG?

I only managed to get a cursory look at it. I know it used AEG's Spycraft rules and not all the classes meshed properly with the concepts of the series.

Your introduction to D&D: what order of books?

D&D Cartoon and Choose Your Own Adventure Books Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends novels. Forgotten Realms novels (Icewind Dale trilogy, Moonshae trilogy, and a few others) D&D Basic Set (Red Box) Knight of the Living Dead (FR solo adventure/book thingy) Midnight on Dagger Alley (AD&D1 solo...

    Print Dragon Collectibility and Pricing?

Monkey is thinking about selling his print Dragon magazines but isn't sure what a reasonable asking price might be for #359 (final print issue and something of a collector's item). Any body out there got any suggestions?

    Information in a sandbox

I'm planning on starting a sandbox style campaign soon, taking place on a large chain of islands in an otherwise mostly water world. My plan is to use Gather Information and Knowledge skill checks to give the PCs information on what's out there. In your lake example, I would only include the...

Twilight, the Uncertain Knight, and the Distressed Damsel

Sorry about that. I couldn't think of an effective way to get across my point. I'm not trying to be confrontational. Let me try that again. I think, maybe, that Twilight hits the bad mojo button for you (or your friend) in the same way that, say, watching a war movie might for a person...

    2009 in Review

Low Points My Sunday night game group (the "grown-up" game) effectively disbanding. The end of my involvement with the WotC Community (no sour grapes, just finding that I'm no longer really a WotC costumer and thus not able to be an effective volunteer community lead). The end of my...

Twilight, the Uncertain Knight, and the Distressed Damsel

I would humbly submit, then, that your issues and those of your real life friend have little to do with the book itself.

Twilight, the Uncertain Knight, and the Distressed Damsel

The primary objection appears to be the abusive relationship angle. We have seen in this very thread that that particular argument is being accepted by those unwilling to actually read the book. Where-as, if one reads the book, one may come away from it with that opinion, or that that opinion...

Twilight, the Uncertain Knight, and the Distressed Damsel

The similarities primarily exist in that the material is being villainized, so to speak, by those unwilling to actually experience it for themselves (whether playing D&D or reading Twilight). Both sources are or were being blamed for causing problems or issues that existed long prior to the...

    SG-1 Finale

Very enjoyable series, very enjoyable ending. :D The only gripe I have was their tendency to use the "find the Ancient device and save the day with it" plot over and over again. But, the characterizations and other story elements were good enough to make up for that most of the time. The Ori...

Twilight, the Uncertain Knight, and the Distressed Damsel

I would still follow Mistwell's advice and read the books for your self and form your own opinion.
