D&D General What are the “boring bits” to you?

You realize that we're talking about NPCs, not real people, right?

D&D General What are the “boring bits” to you?

Spending 10 minutes talking to the NPC you're buying boots from is one thing, spending two hours talking to that NPC is something else... Ahem, no, I don't railroad. But are you seriously OK with the PCs going off and doing whatever? Really?... And IMHO, anyone who GM's a pure sandbox campaign...

D&D General What are the “boring bits” to you?

PC's spending too much time roleplaying with unimportant NPCs.

Should a TTRPG have a singular Core Rulebook or more?

One book, ...as long as all of the info can fit in a reasonable sized book. No one wants to carry a "biology textbook" to every game. Although, most rules are available as a .pdf, so I guess it doesn't matter.

D&D 5E (2024) Out with the old, in with the new?

Once the new books are released, I'll make the full switch to Pathfinder. :devilish:;) But seriously, the guy in my group running D&D will likely move us completely to the 2024 rules

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

More than a year ago, a YouTuber demonstrated how easy it was to curb stomp Vecna, so I don't understand the excitement.

    D&D 5E (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

One of the guys in my group will be starting a new campaign before the new books are released, so we'll probably play it with 5E 2014. I plan on continuing my PF2 game so the group can see how much better PF2 is compared to D&D.

    D&D General character death?

Playing in a game where there was little or no risk of PC death would not be my preference.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you award XP and how often?

I used to be rather anal about tracking xp, but over the past year or so I use milestone.

    D&D 5E (2024) Speculation Welcome: What's Next for D&D?

I've seen mention of geek culture becoming mainstream being good for the hobby, but it may not be. Remember when craft beer was a niche product? Remember the excitement and enthusiasm? Now that craft beer is mainstream, sales have plateaued and it's becoming harder to get the consumer really...

    D&D 5E (2024) Speculation Welcome: What's Next for D&D?

I see them slowing fading away, not disappearing overnight. Collectable editions "covers" are already sold. I see that becoming a greater share of book sales. I'm a grognard, and I haven't opened a physical TTRPG book in 3 years, or rolled physical dice. Yes, I have purchased .PDF's. Micro...

    D&D 5E (2024) Speculation Welcome: What's Next for D&D?

Stating the obvious, but WoTC will continue to push for an online only environment (with books slowly fading away, or becoming a novelty/collectible.) They will aggressively increase micro transactions beyond costumes for your avatar. Pay to play/win is definitely on the table. "Your 1st level...

[+]Training and Reward, not Assumed Advancement

If I recall correctly, 1E required PC to spend 1 month per level engaging in training in order to level up.

D&D General How long should an after work online gaming session be ideally?

Our online games which we hold on Fridays typically last 4 to 5 hours. If it were held on any other day of the work week, it probably wouldn't go for more than 3 hours. But of course, the available time is dependent on everyone's work schedule.

What is, in your opinion, the single WORST RPG ever made, and why is it so bad?

It was in the early to mid 80's, so probably the first edition.

What is, in your opinion, the single WORST RPG ever made, and why is it so bad?

Gamma World The idea was cool, but the gameplay was just "meh" for me.

Tell me about your Bossfights! What went right, what went wrong?

In 5E, the fight goes better if the BBEG has a bunch of minions. Otherwise, they will be defeated quickly by the party's superior action economy. If that's not an option, then fights will go better if the BBEG's HP and AC are materially buffed, has at least 1 powerful magic item, and the lair...

DnD while married/relationship - any advice

I didn't say you can't do both. It's a matter of priorities, and making time for all things in your life. But ultimately, IMO, family and job are more important than games.

DnD while married/relationship - any advice

Spouses, children and job come first. TTRPG's comes second.
