    Battle: Los Angeles

I was happy with it. I went to see it Saturday at noon, and it was just me, and 3 other guys, all of us alone. But I live in a really small town that's just lucky to have it's own movie theater. Frankly, I don't know how they keep themselves afloat in this town, but that's neither here nor...

    Innie or Outie?

    Well then...ahhhh...carry on. ... *cough*

D&D 4E How did 4e take simulation away from D&D?

True. Except for any reasonable, rational DM who would immediately put the kybosh on Joe the Would-Be Olympian's arcing leap. And any player who would actually try to pull off such a stunt should be summarily slapped upside the head for even suggesting it.

    Innie or Outie?

Innie fo lyfe, yo. Yeah, sure. Whatever. Have you never considered the far-more-likely possibility that she was a tank-born clone?

    Nostalgia for D&D

Good read. The author's book Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks has been on my "to read" list for a while now. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the "Tavis Allison" mentioned in the piece is TayBehemoth here at ENWorld. I only know that because I've read quite a bit of his blog The...

    The DnD table??

I chose "Started out as a single table still use it everytime" even though my first experiences with P&P RPGs came about in groups that didn't use battle maps or miniatures and thus kinda sat around and played on floors, sofas, whatever. But, ever since D&D 3e every group I've ever played with...

    GM Handling the System

This. I'd be willing to give it a try, but part of the thrill of P&P RPG's for me (and I suspect many other players as well) is the excitement that comes with a die roll - will it or won't it hit? Will I roll minimum damage again, or maximize damage even though I didn't crit? That sort of...

    Zombie Ants are Real!

Then I guess I started my Zombie Survival Simula...err...I mean Zombie Apocalypse d20 game not a moment too soon. Quickly! To the dice bag!

    The new girl

Not true, good sir! I married one! Of course, she was only marginally nerdy when we got married, but over the last several years, I've thoroughly nerdified her! To the point at which my FiL said Saturday evening, "Well, at least you're not on drugs."

    The new girl

I paint minis. I wouldn't say I paint them very well. But I do paint them.

    Wise Man's Fear

I'm thoroughly in the "annoyed by Kvothe"-camp, and because of that I just *can't* make myself like TNotW. That being said...in an age of Twilight and Harry Potter, I fully understand why people love these books and this author. And that's not an insult. It's easy, engaging reading. It just...

    Happy GM's Day!!

Happy GM's Day to all the assorted ENWorld GMs. I had one player wish me an unprovoked "Happy GM's Day" and it definitely put a smile on my face. I'm going to celebrate the day by cleaning up my living room for a game session tomorrow afternoon and then getting completely hammered with my wife...

Top Ten SF&F novels of the decade

#'s 2, 3, 6, and 9 for me. I positively adore American Gods, can't quite figure out why I don't like Name of the Wind, love all of the Game of Thrones, and find Sanderson's non-WoT books to be complete trash. Re: Sanderson - I only started reading him once I found out he was finishing WoT. I...

    I love my players sometimes.

Wow. That game sounds like it has a flair for the absurd that I don't know I'd have the guts to try in my own game, but it certainly sounds like the characters have free reign to try something a little less-than-boilerplate, which is always cool. :)

    I love my players sometimes.

I pitched something like that - making the squares between the two in a straight line be difficult terrain, or something similar. They didn't want to go that crazy, and frankly, I'm okay with that. It's less for me and for them to keep track of in battle, but I do intend on tying their minis...

    I love my players sometimes.

That was totally the players' idea too. They came to me and basically said "We think this would be cool." They even worked with me on the mechanics of it - basically, the halfling can't get more than 6 squares away from the half-giant. If they want to do that, they'll have to cut the tether...

    I love my players sometimes.

My monthly gaming group, which has been together in one form or another for about 6 years now, makes me so happy to DM for them sometimes. We've got a 4e Dark Sun game starting up in April. This group of players has presented me with what I can only call the most interesting group of PCs I've...
