    Dragon Article: To Live Defeated

(Found here: Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (To Live Defeated)) The article contains alternative means for a group of PCs to handle enemies without killing them. "Great!", you might say, "my players don't have to go on a pogrom and slaughter the entire...

GM's anyone ever have a Female?

My wife has DM'd on occasion. She's much better than she thinks she is, and just lacks for the confidence that repeated practice brings.

Your Group is Missing a Role

The role I think you can do without the easiest is the Controller. It's easy to compensate for by having a few people take a burst power or two just to handle minions. Nothing else really needs to change, IMO.

The Office's Rainn Wilson talks D&D on last night's Conan O'Brien

Rainn Wilson also recently appeared on a local morning radio show and commented on how he kept something valuable in a small, drawstring pouch, "not unlike what I used to carry my Dungeons and Dragons dice in." Unfortunately, I don't remember the context of the discussion, or what prompted his...

    Push/pull/slide through enemies/allies?

Agreed. It's just a shame the RAW disagrees with us. ;)

    Push/pull/slide through enemies/allies?

So, you can be forced through your allies, but not through enemies.

    Politics and the LGS

I honestly don't think that I would ever have a problem spending my money with a proprietor that disagreed with my political views. Displaying a sign, or simply overhearing the FLGS owner stating a political view I disagreed with would never be enough to drive me away, unless, as mentioned...

    DDI VT Beta thread

Played in an 8-person (7 PC) one-shot on Friday night on the VTT. It worked well enough. The largest issue we ran into was that with that many people, we invariably ended up talking over each other. But that was the product of there being 8 people in there. Even so, with 8 people, it worked...

    Setting inspiration

This pretty much sums up my homebrew world. The first campaign I ran in it (set on one of my world's three continents) was very much European in theme - everything from dark ages to Renaissance eras depending on the country. This current campaign is starting on the same continent (for...

    DDI VT Beta thread

Just wanted to jump in and say that I just got my invite this afternoon as well. I'm hoping that I can try this thing out without having to offer to run a game. I really don't have time for that right now. =/

    DDi CB & Windows 7

For the record, I've had no issues connected to either my work network or my home wi-fi connection. I can use the CB in Chrome (my primary browser), IE 8, Firefox, and Safari. And I can run it with Windows Firewall up or down. I don't know what to tell you, Zephrin. All I can vouch for is...

    DDi CB & Windows 7

Ditto. Windows 7, and not a problem in sight with the CB since those first few painful days of server errors.

    Ravenloft in 4th or Essentials?

Ravenloft was actually announced as a box set, similar to Gamma World (uses the basic 4e rules, is compatible with D&D without BEING D&D, etc.) to be released next year. For the OP, I certainly would not call the core adventure modules "Ravenloft-ish." I'm playing through them currently, and...

    D&D 4E Introducing 4eTurnTracker!

I apologize if I'm wrong, or if I missed it, but I'd like to suggest another feature for your application that DnD4eCM has that I make liberal use of - it's calculated encounter level. If I add monsters to an encounter, then import my player's PC files, it will tell me what the encounter level...

Fabled Lands choose your own adventure game books are back

I was entirely ignorant of these of these books before now, but I'm definitely interested. Are they in any way similar to the Lone Wolf "Choose Your Own Adventure" style books? I cut my teeth on those years ago after an aunt gave me a pile of them for a Christmas gift.

Are there beholders in Dark Sun?

I don't think there's anything in the 4e Dark Sun material that explicitly says "no beholders," but then again there's nothing in there that explicitly says "yeah, we've got beholders" either. The tone and tenor of the 4e Dark Sun material seems to be "if you want it in there, it's in there,"...

Are there beholders in Dark Sun?

The correct answer to this question (and all others like it) is simply "Do you want there to be beholders in Dark Sun?" If it's your game and you want to work them in, then yes, there are beholders in Dark Sun.

    Guilty Admissions...

My name is Stumblewyk and: I like gnomes. I am frustrated by people I perceive as min/max'ers, even though I have to fight to temptation myself at character creation (and have even given in on occasion). I have been known to build a dice tower or two in my time. I miss AD&D 2e. I love minis...

    Campaign Duration

My longest-running group plays once per month, and our last game ran for nearly 3 years (D&D 3.5). We're current playing a new game in the same world (4e this time) that just hit it's 1 year anniversary in early November. If I had to guess, it will take at least another year to play out, with...

    Roleplaying Despite Continually Horrific Rolls

I've got Game Science Dice. Believe it or not, they roll 20s far more often than most of my other dice. Disproportionately so. They're no better balanced than my "tumbled" dice. I've actually been "banned" from using them when I DM. Like my players actually get a say in the matter. ;)
