    Independant Computer Dealers

Oh, for reference, I run Windows at home, Linux on my server and for work, and I used to work for a company that developed Mac software, but I never touched one except to browse the internet on a coworker's machine. I do not consider myself a Linux expert by any means, which is why I can...

    Independant Computer Dealers

By "be wary" I wasn't intending to imply they are a bad tech, just that they need further investigation. i was a bit more explicit with this in later comments. If a tech runs Linux at home, you can be fairly assured that they know what they are doing on Windows exactly BECAUSE of the ubiquity...

    Question on reinstalling XP

Sounds like typical garden variety bad video drivers. Where did you get the latest drivers from? Do you have the latest NVidia detonator drivers or ones supplied by MS on Windows Update? MS drivers tend to be MUCH more stable than NVidias, though you might lose some performance and (unlikely)...

    Independant Computer Dealers

The problem is that as computer use becomes more prevalent, the bar for being a "tech" is drastically lowered. (this is only half-comedic) Signs that your computer "tech" might be an idiot: 1. He's under the age of 20 - it is likely that this is simply your average gen-Y computer user who...

What are you listening to at the moment?

I don't think there're many standard ISPs in the U.S./East has download caps. That's more of a European/Australian thing from what I understand.

    DarkMatter d20?

Actually, I'd be tempted to write a new version if anyone else was interested in helping me out (mainly with graphics and design which I'm not too good at). Anyone up for it send me an e-mail at user@domain where user=reanjr and domain=reanjr.org or gmail.com

    DarkMatter d20?

No, I think that's the one that caught on instead of mine. I don't really remember where I had mine. What I did was offer a update for your hosts file so it would hijack http ://hoffmanninstiture.org/ on yuor machine, so you could go to http ://hoffmanninstiture.org/osirs for more...

    DarkMatter d20?

Oh, at one time I also had a website that let you log into the OSIRS server and check case files. It was pretty slick in terms of authenticity and features but was dwarfed by another project's usability and community.

They used to: http://web.archive.org/web/20010516224700/http://www.hoffmanninstitute.org/ (takes a looooong time to load for some reason) I remember there used to be a little blurb that would disambiguate between the "real" Hoffmann Institute and the fictional H.I. from tabletop role playing...

Design & Development: Simplifying dice pools

5d6x3 is quite different from 5d6+35. The first is not nearly as center loaded as 15d6, and the second is way more center loaded.

Come again - you can't shoot bows in melee while in melee?

Ummm... that does not make any sense. Conservation of energy. We can presume the mass of the objects involved is not changing. The is potential energy stored in the bowstring that is converted to kinetic energy in the arrow. That's it. Unless you can figure out some magical source of energy...

Come again - you can't shoot bows in melee while in melee?

Hard to say whether that would really matter or not. Instead of the velocity of the arrow pushing it into the target, the potential energy of the bowstring would do it instead. The initial armor/skin break would work a bit differently, but once the arrow has entered it should be about the same.

Come again - you can't shoot bows in melee while in melee?

No, no no, that would just be dumb. He's claiming it gains MASS while in midair.
