    Hardness

I'd say 0 hardness, 4hp/square foot. So 8 points of damage will destroy 2 square feet of sail Oh, and it should take full damage from fire but 1/4 damage from electricity.

What (PHB) Spells have you banned/altered?

Spells in my campaigns generally only get banned if abused (for instance, if the caster is consistently memorizing a spell in 4 slots, there is something wrong). I am more likely to nerf the effect than completely remove it though. A couple I have removed/nerfed in the past: Ruin the Adven...

Which classic modules should get the Expedition treatment?

I10 - The House on Gryphon Hill This adventure was shafted by it's rushed release after its original author left TSR before finishing (Tracy Hickman, one of the best module writers in the history of D&D). It deserves some revamp love.

    Power Word Pain

It hardly requires a perfect setup. Expeditious Retreat on caster. Power Word, Pain on target. Run.

Why DO Other Games Sell Less?

Actually, there are no leaders and video game companies line up in a circle and just follow the company to their left.

I want to buy a gaming computer. Help me, please.

PS3 will be out by Christmas (or is at least planned to be). PS3 $600 (or 500 with slightly dumbed down version) 360 $400 (possibly cheaper, some expect MS to drop prices when PS3 comes out) Unless you have a particular game in mind, price is pretty much the only difference between PS3 and...

What skill levels would academics have?

Don't forget the +2/+2 feats and Skill Focus (I think it would be entirely reasonable to allow Skill Focus in a game). These stack. If there is not currently a +2/+2 feat for the applicable skill, create one by picking a related skill. This will help with creating scholars that are very good...

    Unsimplified Fractions -- why?

Various reasons I can think of are: Easy to remember what your bonus is if it's always divisible by 5 (or 2 or whatever) Breakpoints in power designed so that you have to wait for a while before the spell gets significantly more powerful per 2 levels could be so that you get bonuses on even...

    The D&D Business Model

Well that's for sure. I think one thing that could be done even for the current edition (and I may have mentioned this on the thread) is to release more of the rules to the SRD, but leave the content to be closed. In theory, this would draw more people to see and understand the rules and give...

Are we all becoming balance lawyers?

I think the primary problem is that the books are written in an attempt to be balanced, sometimes throwing out sense, style and/or flavor to achieve this. So when they do not acheive this, it is all the more annoying.

What is the “home base” for your party?

My current group: Duriel (Human Bard) - lives at home with parents in city Berry (Gnome Rogue) - adopted sister of Duriel Brother Luferus (Halfling Cleric) - lives in church rectory in the same city Father Victor (Human Dread Necromancer) - lives in same rectory Hannibal (Caliban Ranger) - no...

PS3 600 dollars? Sony is on crack

I've always heard that for major titles (and how many of EA's games are NOT major titles) the advertisement costs dwarf the development costs. Add to that the ability to use all the same design and artwork, and you're left with a cheap port even if you do update it for PS3.

How do Psions compare to arcane casters?

Which makes them somewhat inappropriate for campaigns where there is usually only one encounter between rests.

    Dice Questions?

    What is a dragon?

I'm not sure. I can't remember specific reference to their teeth, but it's possible. Like I said, I think feline aspects came from Tolkien. Whether one wants to include Tolkien in mythological "history" is up for grabs. I generally do not as he was conscious that what he was writing was...

    What is a dragon?

While there are a very wide variety of dragon types, I can't think of one that has been described as feline (though Orientals had parts of a tiger, this was just the paws). I thought the feline aspect was a modern idea created by Tolkien. Do you have a reference? The Occidentals rarely flew...

    What is a dragon?

An Occidental or Scandinavian dragon is almost universally a creature of an older age, one which has gone extinct or is in decline. That is the binding motif for the West. Orientals, on the other hand, tend to be seen as spiritual entities (demigods). The thing that binds them to the...

    What is a dragon?

Many think this is also due to the footprint origins. The fossilized footprints would end and so the dragon must have flown away.
