    I'm curious about the RPGA...

RPGA is terrible. The reasons have been enumerated above. I've actually thought about starting up a new organization with the same general goals but that supports role-playing and player ratings to weed out the people no one wants to play with. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to reach...

The Dark Tower...anyone tried it as a campaign?

I did a long adventure based on Black House once. Worked out really well. Strange adventure. For those who have not read Black House, it crosses over with Dark Tower in some ways.

    Looking For A Campaign Setting

That's really one of GHKalamar's strengths as a setting. If you're interested in detail-light, you can play with just the D&D Gaz (aka, the AD&D Greyhawk Folio for 3.x) Player's Primer; if you're interested in crunch-free detail, you can use the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer Kingdoms of Kalamar...

How many homebrew adventures have you written?

I rarely run prefab adventures. In the past, I have run one of the Eberron adventures, Dragon Mountain, Dancing Hut of Baba Yaga, one of the Kalamar adventures. I think that's it. I have run several hundred adventures, almost all homebrew.

    How do you incorporate checks?

For physical activities, I usually require a roll. For social interaction, or character knowledge, I usually just go by how many ranks the character has.

Sci-Fi gamers: what's the RPG you use / prefer

Alternity. I was actually kind of stunned that the option wasn't there.

    Sudden Stalagmite

I generally don't think spells are intended to be limited by environment unless they specifically call it out. It's magic. It does not need to, and in fact can not ever make sense. That said, given that it does say "ground" in the description, I think you're well within your rights to make...

Attack of Opportunity -- does it deserve to survive to v.4?

I think they should be kept but limited in scope. They should not apply to simple movement. Weapons should have reach and engaging a target that has a weapon with greater reach than your own should cause something similar to an AoO. Non-combative actions such as rummaging throuhg a pack or...

How many humanoid species are cross-breedable in your campaign?

I usually do no cross breeding (including half-elves and half-orcs). Opens up too many doors. If I allow half-elves and half-orcs, I also definitely allow orc-elf crossbreeds. I will also, in these cases, usually allow a total breeding free-for-all of the core races. Some are quite rare for...

See Optimus Prime in truck mode! Quick!

I dont understand why people are upset about the Transformers changing. When the Autobots woke up, the ship went out and found contemporary vehicles to model them after. It would make absolutely no sense for them to be old 80s vehicles just because some people have nostalgia over a cartoon...

    How many times...?

I'd say it might be ok for a CN character to do this once in a long while. Neutral characters, while not necessarily the type to help others, generally are going to avoid harming others without provocation. Rude and annoying behavior is not provocation enough for this, but I can see a CN...

Dungeon layout, map flow and old school game design

That's exactly how I run dungeons. I admit I don't do many dungeons, but when I do, it seems to work out pretty well. Linear dungeons (depending on the scenario) just don't make sense. Real complex structures have many ways to go from one place to another. Think of the Pentagon, one of the...

A question about Magic and Law enforcement interacting

I think you'd be better off embracing the spells. Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe has some really good sugggestions about this topic. You seem to have a slightly more modern idea of law in mind, so I'll alter this a bit. Prosecution and defense can both pay fees to the magistrate to...

Bogged down by D&D grapple rules.

How about this. It's an attempt to be simple but still close enough to the standard rules that applying feats or other actions related to grappling should fit right in. Grapple Action and Grapple Check A grapple action is a standard action that provokes an Attack of Opportunity from opponents...

Do you allow material from Dragon Magazine into your games?

I'm DM and I allow limited stuff. The staff familiars and the specialty fighters off the top of my head have been used. I am the only subscriber in the group, so I usually suggest a rule variant to one of my players if it seems appropriate for their character. More often, I just make up my...

    Looking For A Campaign Setting

Goods and Gear. It's not actually published under the Kalamar name as it's useful for any setting, but it does use Kalamar references and has additional info for Kalamar players in it. It's also the best equipment book I've seen for D&D.
