    Metalheads! Confess & Brag

Confession is a strong word, since I am proud of my entire music collection. Some very non-metal stuff that appears in my collection (and of which I am a big fan): Bjork Collective Soul Motown of all varieties Eminem Sunny Day Real Estate Phil Collins I have all sorts of metal stuff, but...

    Filling Class/Role combos

My best take on it is a class that inflicts status effects on targets with physical attacks. This would allow it to "control" the battlefield by limiting the options of the opponents. I'm sure I'm entirely wrong on this, but it is the one way I have imagined a martial controller would work.

D&D 4E Rename the races in 4E? Why halflings and not hobbits? Dwur not dwarf...

In Tolkien, female Hobbits are primarily named after flowers. Given that our examplar Hobbits were linguistically inclined, it may be that Hobbits could take their native name (that means something) and translate it into the tongue of those around them. Then you could have both scenarios...

D&D 4E Rename the races in 4E? Why halflings and not hobbits? Dwur not dwarf...

Tolkien already thought this out very well and gave us a template to work from. In a fictional, fantastical setting, no one is speaking English. So the content of that world is "translated" for our convenience. There is no more reason to refer to an Elf in the PH as "Quendi" (or any other...

D&D 4E Rename the races in 4E? Why halflings and not hobbits? Dwur not dwarf...

Or perhaps, it was changed to how most people were going to pronounce it anyway. No reason to confuse things because Tolkien named it according to Sindarin language rules.

D&D 4E Rename the races in 4E? Why halflings and not hobbits? Dwur not dwarf...

The only reason halflings are called halflings and not hobbits is because of fear of (potential or actual) intellectual property complaints from the Tolkien estate. Not to mention, "halflings" is what they were called by Men in Tolkien (or Perrianath by Elves). This is analogous to Elves...

    What OS do you use?

Me: Linux. w/ Virt. Machine running XP for one application only (work-related). Roommate: Linux. File server: Linux. Buddy from work (who I hang with): Linux. Buddy's roommate: Linux. I guess I just hang with a different crowd than most people.

Warforged: Like them or loathe them?

Is that including the construct bonus HP (+20 for a M sized creature)? Cause that would probably make them even MORE powerful.

Warforged: Like them or loathe them?

No option for "don't really care; they're an alright race that has as much reason to be in the PHB as any non-historic race"

No Macs? Holy crap did WotC do the math wrong!

Not really, it's a matter of using the right tools and frameworks. Check out wxWidgets (formerly called wxWindows) for example. Native GDI, Cocoa, GTK, KDE look and feel. Most of this app seems to be 3d graphics anyway - OpenGL looks the same on any platform.

No Macs? Holy crap did WotC do the math wrong!

I highly doubt what you were doing in school equates with the real world. Academic computer science is far removed from real world software engineering. Assuming the application is written in C or C++ (very likely), two decisions would have made their lives easier and would result in a cross...

No Macs? Holy crap did WotC do the math wrong!

That's a misleading statistic. The lifetime of a Mac is more than double that of a Windows PC. Additionally, a much greater percentage of the Windows PC market is for servers. Add to the fact that nearly all Linux, BSD, etc. users purchase a Windows PC only to delete Windows. Mac's share is...

    Magic missile

Well, considering 1d4+1 and 1d6 are about the same, I don't think it would make much of a difference. Magic Missile is overpowered as it is. The designers have pretty much said it's a 1st level spell for historic reasons only. With 25 levels of spells in the new edition, we might see that...

    So...how do you pronounce it?

I pronounce it correctly :) : Ish-it-shach-it-l (q.v. AD&D 2e MM) Though there is a variant pronunciation in the MM from what I recall.

D&D 4E Material components and spell books? Get rid of them for 4e!

Some 2e campaigns I've run required special ink to scribeinto the spellbook and random dice rolls to determine the number of pages required for the spell. I've always required material components, but assume (as the 3e rules state, but I did this in 2e as well) that common, cheap material...

How to name a people after their land...

I think Venucians is wrong, but it's your world. You could try thinking out of the (Indo-European) box a little as well: Venush Vinus Vensh Vanosh etc. To know what I would call them I'd have to know more about their culture and what (if anything) Venusha means.
