    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

While I don't know that 5e gave me the same feelings as playing 1e, because there is a vast gulf of time between the two and the person I was at either end of it, I can say that picking up 5e after 3e and 4e felt a whole lot more like that experience than what running D&D had been like for the...

What are you reading in 2024?

It is fascinating, how some of the stuff in Lord of the Rings was the result of many, many iterations, while other elements just showed up out of nowhere, surprising Tolkien himself. The Nature of Middle-Earth shows just how much thought he put into his work. How much effort, even math, he...

D&D General Making a Pizza in a Fantasy world.

If I wanted a fantasy world take on pizza, I think it might be tasty to substitute Cameline sauce for tomato sauce, but otherwise keep it the same. Maybe add some sweet toppings, like fruits or berries, but other than that the rest should work fine.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

True, his whole model was not really based on putting out product so much as anti-WoTC/anti-woke culture war nonsense. He already lacked the former as the handful of products he put out didn't exactly set the OSR world alight, and now he presumably lacks the latter.

What are you reading in 2024?

The different drafts of Tolkien's works are fascinating. His earliest drafts of what would become the Silmarillion feel very Ballantine Adult Fantasy - slightly pastoral, slightly fairytale, slightly weird.

Assuming he is forbidden from having anything to do with Wizards' IP and trademarks, I would think that would make functioning in the OSR scene almost impossible for him. Which is a good thing. So much of the very language, the concepts in videogames are inherited from D&D. Add in that it...

What are you reading in 2024?

When I'm not feeling a book, I tend to start skimming pages. I rarely will just outright put a book down, unless I know it's just a matter of me not being in the mood for it right then. Elric's tales are so darn good. I really need to get to the stuff Moorcock wrote after Fortress of the Pearl.

AD&D 1E Whatever happened to the 1E Iconics?

Gleep Wurp the Eyebiter appeared in multiple places throughout the editions. Heck, I used him as an NPC when I ran a 1e Greyhawk campaign right before 5e came out. Emirikol the Chaotic also appears in the wonderful DCC RPG module, Emirikol Was Framed.

Would You Get A D&D Tattoo?

I have a small piece there, and it wasn't great, but wasn't too painful. However, the ink didn't take well there. I keep meaning to get it touched up. Nerve endings are weird, and what is fine for one person isn't for another. Runner up was inside of my upper arm. It felt like I was getting...

What are you reading in 2024?

I finished reading Saberhagen's The Dracula Tape. It was good, but the problem with writing a new take on Dracula is that you're writing in the shadows of the original, and even Saberhagen isn't entirely up to the task. Still, it was enjoyable, and influential, with its sympathetic depiction of...

I remember getting the red Basic box and it having regular dice, then being perplexed when I got the blue Expert set and it came with dice and a crayon.

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

If we didn't manage the full-on Gothic horror of the setting, we at least approached Castlevania levels. Which, I suspect is not an uncommon approach for Ravenloft. Gah, Kull the Conqueror! What makes Kull such an interesting character is his moodiness, philosophy, and yes, depression. All...

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

Same. Seeing that movie at the age of seven was...quite impactful. I still re-watch it every couple of years.

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

A distance of eight years between books is a long time. Vampire of the Mist was quite good, and held up pretty well when I re-read it a while ago. Dance of the Dead was quite well done. If I ever do a Ravenloft campaign again, I absolutely plan on running an updated Night of the Walking Dead...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

To their thinking, the new generation of D&D players are "No True D&D players." As @Wincenworks pointed out, the train of logic on how this strategy succeeds gets somewhat murky, to put it kindly.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

That is the thing - it's a fight for the narrative. Considering how the demographics of D&D have changed in recent years, they cannot win the battle for the future. So they instead squabble over the past, the legacy, to try to give their retrograde ideas a shred of legitimacy. For the record...

What are you reading in 2024?

Chatanists. Yes, yes it did. Dr. Lawrence Pazder would go on to act as a consultant in the McMartin Case, which sent innocent people to prison. That is one of the many things about Michelle Smith's story - how anyone could believe that a five-year-old could know the exact dates of these...

This Jew certainly enjoys the heck out of Lord Dunsany, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard, Manly Wade Wellman, and Poul Anderson. Truth and the far-right are not well acquainted.

Edgerunners Mission Kit Dips A Chrome Toe Into the World of Cyberpunk 2077

It's a sharp product, to be sure, marrying the mechanics of Red with the world and technology of Edgerunners (not to mention art taken directly from the anime). I'm planning on integrating parts of it into my Cyberpunk Red campaign. But to run a full campaign set in the 2076/77 time frame, I...
