You don't think D&D 4e is the best-selling RPG on the market? WotC aren't the industry leaders?

    Really?

    Please define 'swingy'

In any opposed contest, increasing the random element (swinginess) tends to benefit the underdog (usually the monsters in D&D). Regarding the common observation (which I share) that 4e fights are usually determined several rounds before the loser runs out of hit points, this is the perfect...

No, just emotionally charged criticism. There are plenty of valid criticisms of 4e (as there have been for every edition) but most people can't articulate them without wrapping them up in their own ill-considered emotional spin. As soon as you step from rational criticism to nerdrage you're a...

I don't actually like dungeons and hardly use them. Maybe a small complex of caves, crypts or ruins, but even then it's usually a single fight (often just inside the front door when the inhabitants first become aware of the PCs - and then the rest of them arrive as reinforcements during the...

No, but haters might continue to sprout from the corpse of the previous edition. And I don't come here to listen to haters whine. And the internet is full of amateur economists trying to justify why they think that is anything other than a good business decision. WotC is in business to make...

Then why are you so unhappy about it? You have quite an investment in other people accepting your observation. Surely you can accept that other people can have all the pointless conversation and poking around in dungeons they want without needing rules for it? If you only want to challenge...

You get immersion from rules systems? Or rather, thye've never gotten in the way in the past? You've never had a problem with classes and levels, Vancian magic, Armour Class or hit points? Except they throw "It's combat focused!" out there as if it stands alone as a criticism of the system.

    Implicit in the Presentation

One would think people would gravitate toward the rulesets that support their favoured playstyles. Plus there are some incredibly generic systems out there. I guess years of experience showed them that combat is the part of the game most in need of detailed rules. Do you call this subtlety...

What's with the anti-combat snobbery around here anyway?

Are you trying to say something or just arguing semantics? No. They're adventure; they are not 'encounters' (according to 4e). They are what links encounters together. Agreed. It's Dungeons & Dragons for God's sake.

    Lazy Dm needs NCP list

"NCP"? Is that a guy who comes to the table but doesn't get his own character? I'd have him track initiative and conditions.

No. Encounters are any interaction between the PCs and the game world where there is a chance of failure. Meaning that exploration and non-pivotal RP interactions are not considered 'encounters' for the purpose of the rules. You can either play through them or handwave them, to taste.

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

I'm not sure the modern world is an exception. The globalised economy has institutionalised master-slave relationships between the few and the many. It's only that it's more-or-less voluntary (although most modern 'slaves' won't be certain exactly when they 'chose' to become so) that we don't...

    I Need (Place) Names!

The Orchard of Screams or Maggotwood. The Icefurnace Mountains. The Realm of the Living Kings (ironic, obviously). The Carrionspire. I hope that helped. I use similar naming conventions for World of Snoweel (not its real name obviously) but I tend toward the Noun of (Adjective) Noun style.

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

Is it true that once your slaves have changed region compatability three times they are stuck on the last region they were switched to? Very true. But I have absolutely no pity for people who choose to become slaves. Having gone without for 3 years to claw my way out of debt slavery I'm...

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

I think, in the default D&D world, that slavery would be commonplace. However, as you say, you obviously have to allow for most players' liberal democratic paradigm; it's probably easiest on yourself and the players to have slavery just be a part of Evil societies. You could always hide...
