Help me design a cool encounter

Ooh and here's a nice picture of a sawmill. In the off chance you haven't got one already: So the steep bank in the first picture appears 'off-screen' to the viewer's left when looking at the second pic.

Help me design a cool encounter

Have the nearest bank be extremely steep, like a mini-cliff. e.g. This'll give you your 3D combat environment. I'd include a path to the top from a water-level section of the bank further along.

I'm outraged you would even consider this to be my intent. ;) (And I think emoticons detract from any post.)

You don't find it interesting? Did the Obsidian Portal figures match your expectations? 4e is just under half. Definitely. But of the 10 000+ campaigns on the site, 111 systems are represented. Of those, 13 systems boast 100+ campaigns: D&D 4e 4864 D&D 3.x 2518 (this includes 3.0, 3.5...

This is quite telling. I mean, it's not professional quality statistical analysis but it does represent over 7000 D&D-related responses. Edit: I refer to the right hand sidebar showing campaigns by system.

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

So is this: But the rest of us are able to ignore the stuff we don't find funny.

Adventures where the PCs are on the defensive?

0 hp just means 'out of the fight'. So you could have 0 hp minions surrender, flee, play dead, whatever.

    The Heir Apparent [4e]

Excellent. It doesn't look like you need any help at all with your game, but I'll make a suggestion anyway. If the PCs are establishing some measure of fame/popularity, and it sounds like they are, I would have the Prince attack the reputation of the most famous/popular character (or the...

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

I think 'hookah' or maybe 'hor' sound quite Dwarven. I would suggest 'scanque' but that sounds decidedly Eladrin in tone.

designing a reincarnated being that goes insane

To be of any real use I'd have to know how you intend to use this character. I'm assuming he's an NPC? What role do you want him to play in the campaign? saethone here is thinking along more practical, utilitarian lines... Excellent.

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

The problem is, everybody expects different things from a knight than from a samurai, and whatsmore, the scope of that difference varies from player to player. Case in point, the Legend of the Five Rings setting. L5R makes clear that Rokugan =/= feudal Japan. This is a fair and useful...

No that should be fine to post here.

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

I'm with pretty much everyone else here. Less is more when it comes to new terminology. I go as far as outlawing Olde Englishe at the table. The characters aren't speaking Old English or any kind of English in the game world; they're speaking colloquially. So just talk how you talk and we'll...

Your favorite 3.x published campaign setting?

I feel the same. I think the reason for that is because in my own setting I know what's known and, to quote Rumsfeld, the "known unknowns". So I know when I can just make stuff up on the fly. In a published setting, if I'm not 100% across the canon I never know when I might be inadvertently...

Maybe once upon a time, but these days 'retro' is very popular.

Are the Retro Clones doing well?

If there were only some way of automatically sending a notice to WotC every time I buy a retro clone. That'd show 'em.

    Why the need for confession?

I think they assume the makers of the game will mistake a single whiny forum post with market research. So it's an attempt to have a disproportional influence on the future development of the game. Either that or some kind of nerd revenge fantasy.. "See what you've done!!!! You've lost a...
