    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

I don't remember establishing any kind of a wider setting when I ran the original module in the early 80's, but when I ran the D&D Next version in around 2013, I set it in the "Dreadmarsh" area just east of the Yeomanry, influenced by the western Yeomanry placement in RttKotB. I've thought since...

D&D General What class is this character, and is she wearing armor?

Except for some armored bits like the small vambraces and what appear to be leather spaulders, I'd have to agree the leather bodice she's wearing doesn't appear to be anything like a cuirass. So I think this character is probably either a sorcerer or a wizard, although she could also be a monk.

@Shadowedeyes, remember the giant is prone giving you advantage on those attacks. You might get a crit!

D&D General What class is this character, and is she wearing armor?

I was thinking of something like this, which although it's used in the wikipedia article on gambesons, appears to be more of a 17th century buff coat, so I guess I'll go back to no armor in the picture, although, again, it does seem to be an attempt to depict a fantasy version of armor. I.e...

D&D General What class is this character, and is she wearing armor?

Although her shoulders seem reinforced (at least the one we can see), and she's wearing some small metal vambraces over her gloves, I wouldn't say this constitutes a "suit" of leather armor since she doesn't even appear to be wearing a breastplate of boiled leather. Therefore, I agree that this...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

I don't see a good reason to think this is going to be set in Greyhawk. I'm aware the 2E sequel adventure, Return to the Keep on the Borderlands, contains a suggestion for where in Greyhawk to place the module, but the adventure itself seems to have been written with Mystara in mind, at least...

Bible strikes at the giant again, saying, :: Don't take this wrong, but ya gots a face I likes to touch.:: Waythe: 1D20+10 = [7]+10 = 17 Slashing damage: 4D6+6 = [3, 5, 3, 4]+6 = 21 The giant must make a DC 15 Strength saving throw or fall prone.

Bible runs and leaps through the open doorway at the unprepared hill giant, holding Waythe extended above her head in both hands, hoping to strike the giant down swiftly before she has a chance to reach for her club. Waythe: 1D20+10 = [10]+10 = 20 Slashing damage: 4D6+6 = [3, 2, 3, 2]+6 = 16...

    Dwarven Funeral for King?

From The Hobbit, Chapter 18, The Return Journey: They buried Thorin deep beneath the Mountain, and Bard laid the Arkenstone upon his breast. "There let it lie till the Mountain falls!" he said. "May it bring good fortune to all his folk that dwell here after!" Upon his tomb the...

Bible puts a hand on Cordit's hairy arm and says, "Hold the wire. If we break it down, they'll hear us comin'." She scratches the back of her neck as she nods towards the door back towards the east and says, "Seems to me that way might afford us a better chance of approachin' quietly. It's...

Yeah, I'm not sure what the point would be of doing such a bizarre 80's mash-up.

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

That's starting to sound like an unmasking at the end of a Scooby-Doo episode. "And the evil priest is actually... Venger?!" "That's right! And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddlesome adventurers!"

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

It's not like you couldn't give the priest a name and motivation (not sure what an aesthetician has to do with it :)) without adding Venger to the adventure. I'd expect that to be done with a remake regardless, even though my personal preference wouldn't require it. Gygax wrote KotB. I could be...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Ah, okay. Thanks for bringing me up to speed. I could see that working, and Venger certainly wears the correct color scheme to fit in with the cultists, but I'm not sure what it would add to have a wizard like Venger working behind the scenes when the adventure already has the evil priest...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Right, which goes along pretty well with the stated modularity of the project -- modular on both the players' and DM's end of things. Hmm, I'm not sure I can see Venger or the Red Wizards as cultists of "Evil Chaos", and I'm not sure why that would need to be changed as the ultimate source of...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

The Yeomanry in Greyhawk is one of the suggested settings in Return to the Keep on the Borderlands, but the adventure itself doesn't reference Greyhawk. In fact, there's a Cyndicean NPC, so a Mystaran setting seems to have been intended although the adventure also includes Babylonian/Sumerian...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

At around 8:20 in the D&D Direct 2024 video, the person talking says, "For the context of this box, it's in a place called the Borderlands." so the OP would seem to be correct in saying that's the setting of the adventure. Interesting. Personally, I've never made a connection between "the...
