Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [OOC 01]

No, that doesn't seem like a good idea at all... (maybe should have dropped a smilie on my last post)

Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [OOC 01]

FWIW, it wouldn't be an absurd simplification, given the makeup of this party, to just say the PCs always go first unless for some reason Sariel's split away from the party. Barring a tricked-out high-initiative monster or the monsters rolling very well while the PCs roll very poorly, the PCs...

[4e] drothgery's arcane game - Clash of Steel

Yeah, though that was a really clever idea

    D&D 5E (2014) I demand randomization in 5e.

How about a magical item that is less useful than a mundane item performing a similar function? i.e. if no one but the fighter is proficient with poplearms, and he's a tricked-out sword fighter, then the only possible use for a magic polearm is its value in trade; he'd rather fight with an...

"One of my guard will escort you when you're ready, then." She says.

Altaruk, on the Sea of Silt (Dark Sun 4E IC)

Ardie, elf shaman 1 (elemental priest) Ardie stays ahead of the group as she looks for signs of the wagon's passing.she starts in O25; at least, I think we're heading southeast and that southeast is bottom-right on the map Also, if you're within five squares of Ardie and not an elf, then...

[4e] drothgery's arcane game - Clash of Steel

"I suppose you would not suggest that without the ability to do it... I suspect it would work rather well, though cats can be a bit difficult to persuade." Lady Daybringer says.

    Advantage/Disadvantage Impressions

I don't think hard to calculate probabilities are a problem because they can't be figured out in your head in real-time play. I think they're a problem because they make it difficult for game designers, adventure writers, and dungeon masters to analyze things.

[4e] drothgery's arcane game - Clash of Steel

That's a pretty good summary. Which is to say that doing anything else risks dealing with what I think up rather than what's in the adventure ... :)

    Rule-of-Three: 07/03/2012

... except that it's been the Ranger's shtick since 2e, and was so good in 2e that it's kind of expected that it shouldn't be too difficult, at least for the ranger. Now, in 4e carrying two weapons isn't all that useful unless you're a ranger or a tempest fighter (you can get some bonuses to...

    Advantage/Disadvantage Impressions

I'm not a fan of widely-applied reroll mechanics because the probability math on rerolls is complicated (which means almost no one will do it, and you will get weird effects because of this down the line if not in the core rules), and because any time you roll more dice you take more time.

Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [OOC 01]

Some variation on Mal's rules for combat and the like?

D&D 5E (2014) What do you want in the first D&D Next adventure path?

The only thing I'd say about any first adventure path is that WotC not start it with a 'preview adventure' published before the initial 5e rulebooks (and so, almost certainly, with incomplete / non-final rules).

Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [OOC 01]

FWIW, flipping through the leader handbooks from the CharOp WotC forums suggests that it's unlikely a well-built leader (who's not a dedicated healbot) is going to take more than one healing power in addition to what he gets from his class features by level 12. Sariel didn't, but she did spend a...

[4e] drothgery's arcane game - Clash of Steel

The investigation is another psuedo-skill challenge. FYI, starting with the skill challenge I'm revising the skill DCs to the Rules Compendium values. "I'm afraid my knowledge of them is sadly out of date." Lady Daybringer says. "Although I think your suggestion a good one, nothing springs to...

Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [OOC 01]

You're right. But since you'll be doing extra damage if you hit (the other side of that, and both bonuses are rather high since Sariel put most of her stat points in Int and Cha), that should work out okay...

Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [OOC 01]
