Elves are not immune to paralysis. Elves are immune to ghoul-caused paralysis. They can still be paralyzed by other creatures and methods, but whatever toxin that causes ghoul paralysis is something that doesn't affect elves.

I don't count one instance, where it took three characters to hurt the thing, as very representative. (edit) I will say that most of the characters outside of the main characters (and even Alanna et al when they are older) are mid level characters... I still don't recall teleportation, or epic...

I must have blinked and missed any of the books where any of the characters, in either the Tortall novels, or in the Circle novels, wield super powerful weapons, move continents, or teleport. Very few monsters get "blown to bits", at least in the Alanna novels, and even the later novels...

In 2nd Ed, you didn't take cumulative damage, but you did have to save multiple times. If you failed any of the saves, you took full damage from the spell. Seems like a reasonable way to run it, to me....

I never cared for this adventure. It's actually a set of mini aventures, loosely gathered together. The video game actually did a much better job at this, in my opinion. I've never played in it, and I've only DM'd part of it, but I really wasn't thrilled with it....

It's definitely a group issue. There is no reason why the person couldnt' say "I press forward, keeping my defenses ready, and attempt to stab behind his shield" instead of "I move five squares and attack". Not that either is bad, per se. I 've done both, depending on how tired or into gaming...
