    Your favorite D&D setting?

    Dark Sun

PAGING ALL MERCHANTS! How do you protect your wares? (This ain't Baldur's Gate!)

What I do is not worry about it. If the party decides to rob a shop, it obviously can't be that uncommon of an occurance. The next couple of times they try to buy something, have the store recovering from a recent robbery so that it has very little to sell (or steal)... If they decide not to...

    Not your father's Cyberpunk

Things I'd like to see in a cyberpunk game: Biotech. I really think it's the wave of the future. Weapons laws. They get more restrictive over time, not looser. Drugs. I expect that things like pot will become as restricted as alcohol, but the harder drugs will remain outlawed, and there will...

Looking to run a WoT d20 game in Alexandria, VA (Newbies encouraged!)

I am looking for players to play in a Wheel of Time game on Saturdays. I plan on starting with the Prophecies of the Dragon but will be changing some storylines. So, if you are new to the world, that is okay, because people who do know the world will be getting some curveballs thrown at them...

    Sovereign Press to produce Dragonlance

Perhaps, but not so popular a setting. :) DL is the only setting that has continued putting out novels, besides FR. If someone does Birthright, they'll have my three favorite settings done, Dark Sun, Dragonlance, and Birthright. :)

Where do you draw the line for ECLs?

Personally what I like to do is have everyone choose their race and class, anything they want, and then I take the character with the highest ECL, make them first level, and then have each character take character levels to bring them up to par with the higher ECL character. I've found this...

    AEG Dark Sun?

Yeah, I would too. I'm also starting to wonder about the Dark Sun cartoon now. Are they going to go ahead with it? Did it wash out? I also hope they have people like Troy Denning consult on the game. If they could get Brom to do the art, that would be even cooler. :) I'd like to see as...

    Reasons for WOTC's layoffs

I like it, except that this is supposedly an across-the-board cut. People have been cut from cards, miniatures, and RPGs. I think they are just down-sizing to cut costs.

    Any Dune conversions out there?

The Nobles in Fading Suns do a lot of dueling too, so I figure I'll steal that class. The Saurdukar I'm kind of split on. There is a nice class called the Starhowlers in Fading Suns, so that might be perfect for them. If it's not, I'll probably PrC them.

    Any Dune conversions out there?

Well, nobles would be the people with the contacts and the money. They wouldn't be combat machines or anything, but they'd be the movers and shakers. They'd also have things like social feats which would allow them to have some clout in the world. I agree with you for the PrC's, except for...

    How do you envision bards?

The Knowers of Secrets. :) The bard knows things that other people wouldn't bother with the time to learn. So, bards should learn about things from music, to poison, to ancient lore, to local history, etc. Screw combat and spells, let knowledge be their sword and reason their shield!

    Any Dune conversions out there?

Well, in the intrests of not front-loading a class, I'm willing to deviate from the books a bit. Sure there is a way, I say that game balance is more important than modeling one or two characters. No game is ever going to mimic a novel exactly. The best you can hope for is to get as close as...

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

::grants Anthony the title of Slayer of Threads:: :D Thanks for the input, Anthony. Hopefully the work you've put into communicating with all of us will help ease some peoples' fears. I just hope this all blows over before you yank out all of your hair. ;)

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle? My point is that you are spreading misinformation that might scare some people needlessly. WotC cannot put the genie back in the bottle.

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

That's all it does. It does not allow you to use the d20 system at all, just the trademarks and copyrights to those 5 things.

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle? Okay, now you are severely mistaken. The OGL is what lets you use the SRD. The SRD was released under the OGL. The d20 system guide has SQUAT to do with the SRD. It does require use of the OGL, it does say you can't...

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

Right now, with the OGL, a publisher could use anything that's been released under the OGL to use however they want. The only things this would affect right now are monsters and spells, and Anthony Valterra(sp?) has assured us that things will continue to be released (since he's the one who's...

    Reasons for WOTC's layoffs

Well, my youngest cousin, who is in 9th grade now, I think, used to collect Pokemon cards. He never actually played the game, but he liked to collect them. Now, he's moved onto actually playing Magic. I was very surprised that he brought a couple of decks with him to the family Christmas...

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle? Well, S&SS is going to be coming out with the Everquest RPG, and it will only be using the Open Gaming License. There are a couple other lesser-known games that will only be using the OGL also. There is also a movement to reverse...

    Any Dune conversions out there?

The Bene Gesserit In the Wheel of Time RPG, the first level of the magic-using class is equivilant of the training a mid-level (Accepted) memeber of the Aes Sedai (a group of female magic users). I see no reason why the Adept class can't mimic someone with more training than a 5 year old. The...
