    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls on Settings

Probably not. It's just one of the few ways I can see differentiating the setting from FR enough to warrant a publication.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls on Settings

That makes sense on paper, but in practice -- or when describing it on the back of a book -- both settings sound like the same generic fantasy setting. Back in the 3e days, I knew people that thought Greyhawk was just a different region of Forgotten Realms. In some ways, I think Dragonlance...

    D&D 5E (2014) Revamped Ability Score Bonuses

Um, increasing stats was pretty difficult in 2e, unless your DM was just handing out tomes amd manuals like candy. Or wishes, i guess...

    D&D 5E (2014) Revamped Ability Score Bonuses

I would love to go back to the 2e method for dealing with these things. Ability checks were just rolling equal or under your score. Skills were optional, and ideally the DM just let you succeed at stuff that wasn't specifically mentioned elsewhere (bending bars, etc), or roll an ability check...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

Or why not play a board game if that's all you want to get out of it? Having players that actually think beyond the character sheet results in truly amazing stories being told. Perhaps you've just not been part of that, though.

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

Yes, and on it's own it's simply an action. But what if the shiny new lock on a sturdy chest is located within supposedly long-abandoned or sealed tomb? Suddenly, a random property of the lock *could* open up some questions if the person took a moment to actually think about it in...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

That makes sense to a point, but I'm not going to turn everything into a game with win/loss conditions. Sometimes I just want to describe a scene in a way that you can better settle into character and start making decisions beyond the normal what-skills-am-i-proficient-in ones. Other times I...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

Yeah, I keep meaning to throw an animated object at him one of these days. "The carpet you didn't care about roars to life and shows you a 'whole new world' of pain; roll your damn initiative."

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

I think my players just have really bad spacial imagination. One of them actually did say something a few years ago that she simply cannot visual distances and even has trouble with depth perception. That was what prompted me to start trying to describe things differently for her, although the...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Schley's huge Faerun map updated and on Sale!

My criticism is not directed at you. I don't particularly like your art style, to be fair, but that's not at all what it was about. I just think WotC's decision to go cheap and not include possibly the single most important visual component of a setting is a really bad one. It's like they...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Schley's huge Faerun map updated and on Sale!

You had me excited, thinking it was actually a proper Faerun map. Turns out it's just the regional map that should have been included with the SCAG in the first place.

D&D 5E (2014) Tales from the Yawning Portal Maps

You mean another 5e product with little to no map support? Who'd-a-thunk?!

    D&D 5E (2014) I Ran the Yawning Portal's Tomb of Horrors

Thanks for the update. It's surprisingly difficult to actually kill or really challenge players in 5e, without hard-countering their weaknesses, and I kind of hoped this adventure would show how it *can* be done... Guess not.

D&D 5E (2014) adjusting 5E zombies to be like walkers?

Give them stealth, because that's the only explanation for how easy it is to sneak up on the living people the way they do. Seriously, the camera will pan around a dude in a sparse clearing with dead leaves on the ground, only to be surprised a few seconds later by an off-camera zombie that...

D&D 5E (2014) DMs, what are the most baffling and/or pointless questions your players ask?

"How big is the room?" literally seconds after I just described it. It's like some people just zone out during the descriptions and can't imagine anything beyond a set number of squares. It's gotten so bad that I now have to figure out ways of describing things without stating measurements...

D&D 5E (2014) Pictures of the Role Playing Games bookshelves at Barnes & Noble

Anchorage, AK also has (had last time I checked) a healthy number of e3 titles and a surprisingly high number of the Tiles boxes. I'm pretty sure this is just an inventory issue where the company purchased way too many at a discount and was never able to rid of them. As more stores close, they...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the Best Setting TEMPLATE?

Then it's going to depend on your setting. It's also going to depend on if you intend the book to be useful as a reference during play, or logically ordered for another purpose (such as character creation). There's really no template, though. My personal thoughts: If the book is intended to...

    Planescape 5e Planescape

I used to love Planescape, but I'm a bit baffled at its rise in popularity over the years. It seems like something a lot of people supposedly love, yet never bothered playing in -- otherwise they'd know just how difficult a setting it was to run. It's kind of like talking to someone who raves...

    D&D 5E (2014) I have a far-east character, need help on weaponry

kanabo's never really had any "shield breaking" component to them in the first place. They're just better suited to bludgeoning damage compared to edged weapons because of reasons that are hopefully kind of obvious... What happens in someone reads wikipedia and see's a reference to the weapon...

    D&D 5E (2014) I have a far-east character, need help on weaponry

I would go greatclub. I know you really want a massive damage weapon, but the kanabo was mostly just a heavy baseball bat with studs or spikes. A maul is more like a sledge hammer where all the weight is at the end, and wouldn't swing anything like a kanabo.
