    D&D 5E (2014) Dumb orc Class?

INT dump in 5e is surprisingly not much of an issue because essentially nothing other than arcane magic is tied to it. If you really want to play a mentally-challenged-yet-crazy-fun type character, dump your WIS.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4 Horsemen Weapon powers

Rather than special weapons, what about their presence having large aura effects. Something like this: Each horseman radiates an aura 20 feet in diameter, centered on the horseman. Pestilence - Damage cannot be healed, conditions cannot be cured, and exhaustion cannot be removed, while within...

D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Building: Revised XP Threshold by Character Level Table

It depends on the encounter, and the purpose of the lower CR creatures. If they can more or less just be ignored in favor of attacking the Kraken, then there's no reason to factor them in. But if they are there and somehow shield the Kraken (maybe by making it harder to get to it until they...

D&D 5E (2014) Classic Products from the Last 17 Years

The 3e Forgotten Realms campaign book is still the most accurate one for the setting. The 4e version is only useful if you're running spellplague adventures. But since they've kind of retcon'd or reversed some of the more divisive changes from that era, 3e is surprisingly still useful. The...

D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Building: Revised XP Threshold by Character Level Table

Hard encounters are listed as having the possibility of things going badly, and with a slim chance that one or more might die. Deadly encounters are listed as possibly being lethal for "one or more characters." To me, a 50/50 chance of TPK seems to fit a deadly encounter quite nicely...

D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Building: Revised XP Threshold by Character Level Table

I think the default rules are pretty accurate until about level 8 or so. It just breaks down significantly after that. Plus, some encounters are changed depending on initiative order. A deadly encounter where the enemy goes last is more like a medium encounter, in my experience. I personally...

    D&D 5E (2014) I may have taken on a bigger challenge than i thought I did

I'd recommend balancing around 4 players. Monster stat blocks list average HP based on hit dice, which is roughly 50% of their max HP. If only 3 show up, drop the monster HP down to 40%. If 5 people show up, just beef the HP up to 70%. If 6 or more people show up, just add 1 additional...

    D&D 5E (2014) What would a demon do with a dead Paladin?

Since the paladins' deity would likely intervene on behalf of the spirit/soul, about the only stuff that would happen is restricted to the corpse. You could obviously come up with all kinds of bad stuff for that, but I think this is a time where leaving it up to the player's imagination would...

D&D 5E (2014) Encounter Building: Revised XP Threshold by Character Level Table

Considering the DMG says deadly encounters pose very real possibility of one or more character deaths, I don't think there's really any variation on definitions. A fighter against his clone seems to fit the description.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls on D&D (New Interview with James Introcaso)

That section is fine, but maybe he's complaining about the other half of the book detailing FR-specific things like regions and deities? It's really not a smart purchase unless you are interested in the whole bit. I wasn't. Back then we were seeing a constant stream of 1st and 3rd party...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magit Item: Guiding Blade

The reality is, you've basically created an artifact weapon with a complicated set of custom rules. If you're looking for something like this suitable as a rare or very rare magic weapon, maybe chose any single ability you're thinking of and give it to a basic weapon. Letting it do multiple...

D&D 5E (2014) Solving the problem of initiative.

I think the problem is assuming everything stops while someone is acting. Narrate it a little differently. I personally explain to everyone up front (at the beginning of a campaign or when someone new joins) how things like this work. For me, every round of combat takes roughly 6 to 10...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magit Item: Guiding Blade

Nothing about this sounds like a "rare" magic weapon. Also, why rapier? You mention elven runes, so it would make more sense for it to be a longsword.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls on D&D (New Interview with James Introcaso)

One thing I wish they would do is more clearly define products for players vs dm's. As a DM, there's several things a year that I am interested in buying, yet as a player there's really not much of anything. I'd like to seem more player options show up, although I don't think they need to...

    D&D 5E (2014) One Year of DM's Guild

That site is basically useless as far as I'm concerned. It uses the same crappy layout as rpgnow and crew, and it's really just not a format that scales very well. I'm sure there are some amazing products, but I'm not about to try and find them in that mess. *edit* One last thing: people...

    Map of Abaddon

As far as I remember, most of the non-prime material planes are unmapped (or only vaguely so) because they are usually infinite in size, impossibly chaotic, or both. Anyway, I was actually kind of stumped because I've never heard of Abaddon in D&D. Did some research and it looks like it's...

D&D 5E (2014) Low CRs and "Boring" Monsters: Ogre

Ogres are fine, they just make horrible solo fights, which is what they tend to get used in (because they are large). The reality is, 5e does a horrible job of handling "bosses." Start throwing multiple ogres at a level 2 or 3 party, and they can be pretty good challenges -- assuming you stick...

D&D 5E (2014) Give me your craziest, most GONZO PC concepts!

CRABBY ELF BARBARIAN FROM A LINE OF FALLEN ROYALTY WHO SAW THEIR WHOLE FAMILY CONSUMED BY A GELATINOUS CUBE Man, I love that site.

    Bug with notifications

I think you're close, but the post id (or link) is unique to the entire site. As it turns out, the behavior was related to me having someone on ignore. I haven't personally used vBulletin in over a decade, but from what I remember this could very well just be some poor legacy coding that never...

    Bug with notifications

Oh good call. I didn't even think about the ignore function. Turns out I had someone ignored, and removing them 'fixes' the problem. I'd still suggest it get looked into though, but I don't think that should be expected behavior.
