D&D 5E (2014) Unexpected but (mostly) awesome new rules in Basic

Sometimes game stores allow people to play rpgs in the evenings after the stores are closed. You could ask around, maybe?

D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Basic Set: Things that make you go "what?!"

Which in turn makes grapple from the beefy fighter a very useful ability to combine with silence from the caster.

D&D 5E (2014) Has the old "ready to cast silence upon spellcasting" trick finally been stopped?

On the other hand, it makes grapple way more important. Fighter readies a grapple, Caster readies a Silence, and together they can shut down the bad guy caster.

D&D 5E (2014) Unexpected but (mostly) awesome new rules in Basic

Well, so long as one only casts it on creatures that are *not* humanoids, it should be perfectly kosher. ;) Mind you, basic rules don't (yet) have stats for zombies. I love the paragraph on p. 33 too. I think it will stop some young trans player from committing suicide, to have that...

D&D 5E (2014) This is easily the best character sheet that D&D has ever had, IMO.

The one thing I would add would be an exhaustion box, since a character can have up to six levels of exhaustion now.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5e Basic Set: Things that make you go "what?!"

The sleep spell is interesting in that it now, like the Power Word spells, requires the PC to somehow guess what the enemy's hp are at a particular time, and thus when to risk casting it. How good is the DMs poker face (for one kind of DM) or descriptive powers (for another kind of DM)? Mind...

D&D 5E (2014) Has the old "ready to cast silence upon spellcasting" trick finally been stopped?

I assume it is because if you cast silence first, then on the enemy's turn the enemy can move out of the silence zone and then cast "I kill you dead!" on you. If you ready the silence spell, then wait and concentrate, then, when the enemy is trying to cast the spell "I kill you dead!" on you...

D&D 5E (2014) [5e] High level Halfling fighters and rerolls.

Well, page 57 seems to be pretty clear that the halfling lucky ability is only applied to one die in the case of advantage or disadvantage.

D&D 5E (2014) [5e] High level Halfling fighters and rerolls.

    a) If a high level halfling fighter rolls a 1 on a saving throw and uses the halfling ability to reroll and still fails, can the halfling then use the fighter ability to roll the die a third time? b) What about if the same character rolls a failure the first time, using the fighter ability to...

D&D 5E (2014) So am I missing something with this evoker power?

I wonder what would happen if a high level evoker hit a high level rogue with acid splash. Would evasion trump the evoker power or vice-versa?

D&D 5E (2014) DAOM IS DEAD DEAD DEAD!!!!

Did the Evoker get damaged by a miss(ing rule)? I wonder if a casualty of this battle to remove DoaM is the evoker wizard in basic: The Evocation tradition allows a 6th level evoker to require victims of their evocation cantrips to take half damage even on a failed saving throw, when they...

D&D 5E (2014) So am I missing something with this evoker power?

The Evocation tradition allows a 6th level evoker to require victims of their evocation cantrips to take half damage even on a failed saving throw, when they would normally take none. On the first pass my question was "well how does that interact with the 7th level rogue evasion bonus that...

Pathfinder 1E Sorcerer with more spells known

    Interesting ideas. Thanks!

Pathfinder 1E Sorcerer with more spells known

Oh dear. Yeah, I better stay away from that one. Well I did restrict myself to the core book and the advanced player's guide, at least. And thanks for your replies.

Pathfinder 1E Sorcerer with more spells known

Thanks! I think I will avoid Paragon Surge in play (I like my DM and don't want tears), but what is the trick to abusing it? Just getting any metamagic feat you need when you need it?

Pathfinder 1E Sorcerer with more spells known

I was thinking of a Human Sorcerer (Verdant bloodline) that takes the feat "Expanded Arcana" to get an extra spell known at max. level, and uses favoured class bonus as often as possible to get an extra spell known at (max.level - 1). I would even pick traits Magical Talent (stabilize) and...

most powerful non wizard sorcerer spells?

Does your DM allow dragons as pcs? Because some dragons get the entire cleric spell list, plus some domains, as an addition to their potential spells known as sorcerers.

    List of teamwork feats?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/teamwork-feats has a list of Pathfinder Teamwork feats. There is also a "meta" teamwork feat in Mythic Adventures that makes some of the teamwork feats better. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/mythic/mythic-feats/legendary-teamwork-mythic

    D&D 3.x [3.5] smite chaos

The Sapphire Hierarch has the smtie chaos ability and it says it stacks with smite chaos from other sources. What other sources would there be? I don't think even inevitables get smite chaos. The closest I could think of is if someone allowed a houserule to change smite evil to smite chaos for...

What is your favorite evil cult?

That was what I had meant when I had "forgotten" about Tharizdun, but I guess it took awhile for someone to get the joke. ;)
