    Frequency of Opportunity Attacks

Players in my games provoke them all the time, generally from marked enemies who the defenders can punish. I often wonder about how meta-gamey is is to take them, but most opportunity attacks are taken unless I have a specific reason not to. Monsters I run provoke a lot too, though it depends...

    Battlemind: Blurred step

I like it! Shift and charge that Mr. meta-gaming DM.

    Battlemind: Blurred step

I was sort of hoping we were missing a general 'combat reflexes' sort of feat in the PHB3 from the previews. Ah, well..

Dual Implement + Two Weapon Fighting

If you're willing to sink a few more feats take a defensive double weapon and two weapon defense and you're not even giving up any AC for it.

    Battlemind: Blurred step

This is the most reasonable fix, though shift+charge is pretty metagamey (I sure as hell wouldn't use it every chance I got as a DM). Though I also wouldn't mind seeing them get the ability to make two opportunity actions per turn somehow. But that's more likely something on par with a paragon...

    D&D 4E I admit it. I don't "get" 4e psionics.

That's like letting a non-psion swap out every power they have, though. Like a rogue could have 3 level 7 encounters at 7th ...

PHB3: Random stuff that doesn't merit a full post

Not to mention there's most likely a better place to put that 14 than Str...

    Does the shardmind seem overpowered?

Telepathy isn't amazingly powerful, there's plenty of downsides that were brought up when people thought it was amazing for the kalashatar. However, I personally think it's basicly an extra at-will utility power, and a flexible one at that. Shardmind have a big laundry list of other things, but...

What PHB3 Classes stand out to you?

It comes down to a few... powerful (I was tempted to say broken) feats/items/paragon paths/destinies in general. And investment. Last I looked you were still getting the most with Hide but you needed a 20 Int/Dex to do so. Most classes these days let you switch your AC stat if you don't light...

    The Assassin in Play

The wizard hit points don't help either. The more I see it in play the more respect I have for the design of the class. They are fragile at their core, but very good at vanishing into the shadows.

PHB3: Random stuff that doesn't merit a full post

It's funny but not really overpowered at all. Not having a damage die really kills a power (especially a multi-hit power), comparable powers will be near or better in damage even after factoring in accuracy.

    D&D 4E I admit it. I don't "get" 4e psionics.

I was actually thinking of Luring Steel(13)->Cage of Cowardice(28). Steel's flat out better unaugmented. From what I've seen battleminds are plenty sticky, but they stick to the target rather than the other way around. DM's who abuse shift-charge a LOT are overly metagaming, there's plenty of...

    D&D 4E I admit it. I don't "get" 4e psionics.

Yeah, battle mind has a similar issue, only sometimes the epic ones are worse than the heroic tier. At least Psion has a handful of holes like this too. I'm surprised such things slipped through, you'd think they would have noticed in playtesting and just swapped the levels around a bit...

I need a nice, heavy light blade ;)

Just dual wield a bastard sword and rapier/short sword, depending on build.

    Alternatives to individual XP awards

I use shared XP, and I just give group XP rewards for individuals doing well. It's a nice positive feedback cycle, since the other players should generally appreciate it.

First Impressions from the D&D 4E "Test Drive"

Also, as was stated upthread, you can get a subscription to DDI for a month and get 5 installs of the character generator. That covers almost everything you'd need to make and run most classes, small bits like the familiar rules aren't entirely intact, but for the most party you're good to go...

    Crash Course in 4th ed.

One of the things 4E did very well is divorce the PC and NPC rules. You're free to use PCs as opponents, but there's quick and dirty rules in the DMG that play better. That said the adventure tools monster creator is something my game lives by. Needs template and 'mock PC' rules, but it's...

    Good Elven Defender

Best defender I've ever had in my party was a 16 Str 16 Dex 16 Wis elf with a trident and shield. Good player, solid build.

    Magic missle question

Monsters don't use feats in 4E. Honestly, dude, I'd let this one drop. Your DM has far worse issues from everything you've posted on these boards. You're wasting your effort until he tries to pull it with somehting like a beholder in the future. Bending the monster rules (not breaking them)...

    Magic missle question

Only if the 'player' is the one provoking the attack. Another ally adjacent to the opponent can. However, I'm not aware of any ranged or area OAs by the book (which means I haven't looked. I don't need a lits, thanks). To the OP: The DM most likely isn't playing perfectly correctly by the...
